A solid muni-style course at a solid price
For under $20 or so, you can do a lot worse in Milwaukee than Blackstone. It's just a decent, average course. Nothing too hard about it. Nothing too bad about it. It's pretty narrow, but that's pretty standard for some courses in the area. I played in mid-September and it was in decent shape. It felt like the perfect place for a high school golf team to call home. At the price (I paid $15 on a Hot Deal), it's a good bargain.
Worth the Drive.
I drove two hours to play golf with a friend. Neither of us had played the course and didn't know what to expect. The course was well laid out - with the exception of the path from # 17 to 18. The course was very soggy from several days of rain but the greens were in reasonable condition and rolled true. Due to the standing water and mud we elected to play pick clean and play so other than getting wet feet the water didn't effect our play. The course had many doglegs which have either water or trees which requires control over your tee shots. There were numerous sand traps but mostly those were to the side of the greens so you could miss it short and not have to play in the sand. The course offers play it forward tee boxes which was appreciated since I am rehabbing from back surgery. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant made an excellent burger which fueled my 2 hour return trip. I will play this course again.
Needs some work
I understand this place is under new ownership. It's encouraging that they are trying to upgrade the current version. When we played you could see they were working on it. Conditions were a bit rugged but not horrible. I enjoyed the layout overall.
Great Round
Man! They are doing a great job here. I haven't played here for years because it was just OK.
NOW! its a very nice course!!!!
Very good condition!!!
A real nice staff, doing a great job!!
4:10 Tee Time
I used to golf at this course against Germantown in High School. The course encourages one to play strategically with doglegs and tricky tree lines at points. Good shots are rewarded nicely. Unfortunately the area was pounded with large amounts of rain throughout the night and previous day so there were some pooled areas of water and flooded bunkers(which was expected, still had the itch because it was my only off day). Very nice course with great wildlife and scenery. Great place for golfers to find a strong mental/strategic aspect of their game.
Very playable with enough difficulty
The doglegs and tree lines require you to plan and execute good shots and reward you with good scores from true running greens. Some traps had heavy sand and others real nice consistency. The fairways were a little deadpan so rolling through fairways can be a problem. The trees, meandering river, and well placed traps made the challenge fun and strategic . I will continue to look for deals on golfnow.
The lady t box is to not longer enough.
The course it ok The play was slow. They need a marshal on the course. The green was good. Fair was was good.
Overall a good value
The course is a good value. As a a senior walking the cost was $19. I played early am and had the course pretty much to myself. There is a variety of holes. A couple of suggestions : On #10 move the tees back about 100 yards and make it a par 5. Do the same on 18 . On 18 move the tee back and to the right and make it a double dog leg par 5.
Good course for the money
Course is fun and challenging. A great deal for the money. Greens roll really true
Good value for the money
Pace of play on a weekday was just right. A nice, relaxing day of golf and staff was friendly.
the price is great but the pace stinks
It seems like the Golfnow tee times often fall right behind an outing so the usual courtesy shown to singles playing through can't happen.
This course has potential
The course fairways are under repair in many areas.
The grass on some of the fairways is almost down to bare dirt. The rough is many of the areas was overgrown and needed to be cut. The weather was 90+ degrees but there was not a beverage cart in service.
Getting Better
I stopped playing here for awhile because the prices were too high and the previous owners were letting the course deteriorate. Conditions are much better now and the green fees are in line with the course. Easy to walk on without a tee time in the afternoon, but pace of play can be slow at peak times. Tree-lined fairways make the course challenging, especially the middle of the front nine.
Cna be a very challenging course.
Needs updates in areas, some holes are very nice but some areas really need to be looked at for repair or redesign. Nice place though would definitely play there again. Overall good value for your buck !
This can be quite a challenging course.
There is much good and some not so good. It is kind of a tale of two courses. Liked some holes very much and some were in need if some work. Feels like the course is going through or needs redesigning in areas. It was overall a good round if golf for the price. Felt very fair what we paid to play there.
Course is in Fair Condition (Improving)
My first time at this course. Many holes was in the middle of improvement in the fairways. The rough was hittable and good condition. The fairways was in good condition except those that are being worked on. There was a bridge leading to 18th tee box, and back across to the 18th fairway that looked really dangerous. I also wasn't a big fan of seeing rock piles to the left off the tee, I think they can place that stuff off site where golfers can't see it. The Greens was in Excellent condition, and rolled true. The best part of my visit of this course was seeing the juniors out there having fun.
Poor Management
We played the front nine without hesitation; however, the course began sending players of the back nine as we were making the turn. This resulted in a multiple group back up on the 10th tee.
slow play
left after 14 holes would have been a 5 hour round, extremely slow play.
Waste of my time and gas
Never got to play they did not know what they were doing was told we had to wait for groups to play through from back nine to front times should have been blacked out got a rain check only because they said no refunds when bought through golf now the first tee had 5 or 6 groups waiting our 11:54 tee time would have been 12:30 to 1pm very disappointed
Perfect Sunday Afternoon round
Not a bad place to. Well worth the money. Greens where in good condtion but fairways alittle rough. Need some better cart paths.
