Well Manicured Quaint and Relaxed Short Executive Course
Glenway is a nice and well manicured short executive course with a quaint and relaxed atmosphere. The course is always well maintained regardless of the time of year. Unfortunately, the design of the course does lead to very slow play most of the time.
The clubhouse is old, dilapidated, and uninviting. The outside patio is the most comfortable area of the clubhouse.
The pro shop is limited to mostly tees, gloves, and balls.
The concession stand is limited to a few sugary and salty snacks, a moderate selection of sodas and sports drinks, and a small selection of beers. Glenway does not offer wine, liquor, or hot food. Beverage cart service is only available on weeknights during league play.
All together the course is mainly for kids, college students, retirees, and the elderly who are looking to play a leisurely and easy round for a cheap price.
Nicest 9 in Madison
Glenway is my favorite course in Madison. Quietly nestled on Madison's West side, this golf course will bring you back with it's well maintained fairways and greens. Bring every club, so that you may effectively get your best score. If you know Wisconsin, you will appreciate this next statement; No water. What that means is no bird dropping issues or rampant mosquito problem. To me, the course brings out the best and worst in me. Course management is key. My favorite hole is #5. A par 5 that has a long fairway, a gully that has oaks on either side and a green that is 70 feet above the gully. it is the bane of my play. Otherwise if you have no mobility issue, walking is the best way to know this gem.
