Hawks Landing Golf Club

About
Hawks Landing Golf Club is situated on the western side of Madison. It is a semi-private course but it is always open for public play. The course boasts excellent conditions and features bentgrass from the tees to the greens. The lengthy layout stretches to 7,243 yards from the back tees. Long hitters are sure to enjoy this golf course but it will test not only your ability to hit long but also your accuracy. Numerous strategically placed bunkers lurk throughout and the greens are much tougher than they look thanks to the undulating landscape, which also present golfers with a few tricky uneven lies. There are also water hazards that come into play on a few holes. Hawks Landing Golf Club offers a fair test but it is not overly punishing or difficult.

Reviews
hawks landing
played 3 rounds in madison and Hawks landing was by far in the best shape. Greens were smooth and fast, course layout was challenging yet fair...our group of 16 all agreed best greens we putted on for the weekend. if you have the opportunity to play i recommend you do
This course is in great shape and condition.
Every time I have played at this course, it is in great shape and condition. One of the nicest course I have played on. Would highly recommend it.
A lot of hype, and a lot of disappointment.
I had heard really great things about this Course and I booked it for the last day of my trip (saving the best for last).... the gentleman at the front desk was very nice, range balls were included with the round BUT, this place is not very friendly to "outsiders". I was a single player (out of Towner) and There were members in 4 somes that would drive balls near you when you were taking your approach shot, even though you were stuck behind a group of 4.... on one occasion, another golfer in the 4 some behind me asked to play through, I told him that he could, and he said, "Good.... you don't really have a choice because I'm a member here anyways."
All in all, the course is just "okay".... but for $60-$70, you can find 5 courses in MUCH better shape, and a lot more fun, for half the price.
Great golf course
Course is spectacular, very challenging, yet playable.
Great course
This was a great course for the money we paid. Fairways were in great shape, however the greens were pretty slow. Pro Shop left a lot to be desired. I am not from the area and was hoping to find Badger attire.
Beautiful Course
Very nicely laid out. Numerous tee distances to choose from depending on ability. Beautiful homes around the course.
Hawks Landing First Timer
This was the first time 3 of us had played this course. It is a beautiful course, with interesting and challenging holes. This is not a course for walking, as there are many long stretches between green and the next tee. My only complaint was the lack of anything showing the layout of the hole. No signs on the tee box and no depictions on the score card. Many times we were left guessing where the hole went beyond what we could see from the tee.
I wouldn't go back to this course again
The staff were completely unfriendly to customers that aren't members. Signs say pace of play is 2 hrs 9 minutes per nine and we played in exactly 4 hours 20 minutes with nobody pushing us on back nine at all and twice were told in unfriendly terms to pick up the pace of play. The ranger drove by on the cart path 10 yards from me as I was in my pre-shot routine and then hitting an actual shot. Also, we weren't told to order food in between nines and there were no apparent signs to order and no food was ready at the turn. food took 15 minutes alone at the turn. I wouldn't advise anyone playing this course that isn't a member. When we complained to the head pro he wasn't apologetic but rather argumentative. Plenty of other courses to play like URidge with more friendly staff and management.
Excellent course, just rolled the greens that morning and they were fast and true. Absolutely a must play if your in the area.
Great Course, Beutiful Day
This course is one of my very favorites in the area. I played with clients and had a very good time even though my golf game was off. It's a beautiful piece of authentic Wisconsin landscape, well designed with multiple tee boxes, and well kept. Fairways were well laid out. The greens were fast and a little tricky (which I liked) but fair. The staff was very friendly.
I've only played their twice now but would definitely recommend it.
Must Play Course in the Madison, WI Area
I was looking for several golf courses to play in the Madison, WI area with my buddies from out of state. University Ridge was a course we had played several times and was again on our list. On the advice from others in our golf league, I set up a tee time at Hawks Landing which we had not played previously. The fairways were in immaculate condition, the greens fast and true. We loved the layout and finished in about 4 hours. This is a semi-private course and although we were not members, every staff employee we encountered was very friendly. They asked how we liked the course and thanked us for playing. We will definitely play this course again.
this course is in excellent shape
We played Hawks landing a couple of years ago in November. It was sunny but very cold. We were impressed with the course and wanted to go back in warmer weather. It was a perfect day and we had the course to ourselves it seemed. We enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully we can book a hot deal through golf now some day
Great round of golf!
My first time playing this course and what a treat. Very playable and beautiful course.
Nice layout
We played the day after Verona got 5 inches of rain. Course was in great shape. It was cart paths only which slowed down pace of play. Staff was friendly. my only complaint was that the greens were aerated which we didn't know ahead of time. Reminded me of Broadlands in Waukesha. A good value.
Nice course, great condition
Beautiful course, we had a great round. Course is in great condition.
Hawks Landing - Great Course to Play
Highly recommend Hawks! Course is in great shape; fairways, greens, and bunkers!
Great place to play
Nice course, a couple of funky holes that you really need a GPS to play the first time.
I belong to another private club here in Madison and am embarrassed at the comment made by a member of Hawks Landing. If you are keeping up with the group in front of you there is no where to play through too. As far as better places, Yahara has some of the best greens in town. comparable to private clubs. Their rough is challenging and for a municipal course pretty darn good. Their rate is about $45.
I have heard anecdotal stories about this club and this seems to support what I've heard. Too bad as Hawks Landing is a fairly decent course
Which 5 courses in Madison are in MUCH better shape for half the price? $30-$40 for 18 holes is a par 3 course price so I'm looking forward to your response.
To be honest, your claims are clearly unfounded and a review where emotion got the best of you- best of luck on the course.
