Greens are SLOOOOOOOW
Large greens, but speed is extremely slow. Tee boxes in rough shape. Fairways are good. Could use another set of tees as shortest is 5100 yards, which is really tough for beginners and most ladies (IMO)
Graywolf
First time at Graywolf. Had a 11:27 t-time. The owner doing the check-in, was super friendly and helpful with the directions and locations of the1st, & 10th tees, the driving range and the practice greens. Their Graywolf mascot was on the premises (I think he was part husky).
The course is long and has 5 t-boxes . The fairways are well kept and the greens are faster than other courses I played on. This course was destroyed by the 2019 tornado. The clubhouse is being rebuilt and will open next year. I can't wait to play this course again. It was a lot of fun and challenging.
High Hopes
I’ve tried to remain optimistic that this course would be able to be make a come back to the Dayton area. What bit of progress it seemed to be having has all but stalled out. Club house is still not finished and the course conditions have gone from not good to horrific. So many weeds clover has taken over the first cut off the fairways and around the greens. Most of the tee boxes are destroyed, fairways are in bad shape greens still have ant hills all over them. I might play the course again next year to see if it’s ever going to turn the corner, but, as far as this year goes don’t waste your money!
Work in progress
Third year after reopening
Greens and sand traps were clean and in good shape
Fairways were ok. Lack of rain, and irrigation causes hard fairways.
Otherwise in decent overall condition
Worst course I have ever played
This course isn’t maintained at all. Course is in shambles and the fairway or horrendous. They don’t treat the fairways at all clover everywhere and can’t find your ball in the fairway. Tee boxes are awful and the greens were not any better. Overall 1 out of 5.
Some improvement since reopened.
Greens have improved since reopened but fairways need a lot of improvement. Bunkers are not good at all.
Overall there is a long way to go to get the course back where it was years ago. Very rough compared to other courses at the same price.
Work in progress
The staff was friendly. I called the day before to make sure the range was open but was disappointed when I found out it was closed for mowing. They had a limited selection of beer but no ice. The clubhouse has been under construction for over a year. The only bathroom on the property is the temporary toilet in the shed they use for a clubhouse. The course was in fair shape. A little dry and weedy. We might try it again in a few months if they get the clubhouse done.
Nice course with real potential
Course is in a bit rough shape, but it's clear they're making the investments to bring it around. Really look forward to seeing the course in a year or two. Really enjoy the layout, one the absolute best in the area.
Course Improving
Have played Gray wolf several times this season. Good value. In the spring some greens in rough shape and fairways full of weeds. The course made a noticeable difference improving course conditions. The reeds around some of the ponds have been cut down making the course look more tidy, especially on the 18th hole. Keep it up. Look forward to new club house opening.
Recent round
The course has steadily improved since opening back up,greens could use a little love but other than that it was good.Had a group of 6 in front of us,there were only two of us together so the round took some time but it ended up being a nice Sunday golfing overall can’t complain too much.
Huge improvement this year.
The owner and crew are working so hard to bring this course back to a great condition. Greens and Bunkers are
Looking so much better. A lot of landscaping is happening.
Course is coming back nicely! I’ve always loved the layout!
Ants
I enjoyed playing but the place needs major TLC. I've never seen so many ants in one place. Every green had ant hills.
So much potential
This course could really be wonderful if there were enough investors to redo the fairways, greens, add a greens keeper and hire rangers. This is a Chi-Chi Rodriguez designed course, and is set in a scenic area. But nothing has been done to the fairways or greens. The fairways are just short-cut clover, and the greens are pitted and are inundated with ants. And with it being a budget course, I’m sorry to say….you get a lot of “unmentionables” playing there that have no manners or golf etiquette. And it makes for some real frustration, especially with no ranger to take care of these problems. Slow play, drunkenness, foul language, pot smoking on the course. This behavior is what you’d expect at a trailer park, not a golf course.
The shame is, the owner is wonderful, and has worked hard to build a new clubhouse and try to improve the course. But it takes more than a couple people to make for a quality golf course. I only hope things improve down the road…it has potential. And then the price to play can increase, and keep the troublemakers away.
