About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.
The beauty of the natural terrain and the way Jones fit the golf course into it is truly spectacular. Situated alongside the Santa Cruz River, the course meanders into the surrounding hillsides where the sunlight casts mystical purple and yellow shadows in the late afternoon. Holes 5 to 8 are considered one of the finest four hole stretches in the state, ending with the 439 yard No. 8. Teeing off from high on the hill, the fairway drops off twice before your long approach shot settles onto a green framed by a reed filled pond to the right and a gaping bunker to the left.

Sweet place to go
Rio rico staff is very friendly and accommodating. They are working hard to get the course in better shape. The views here are spectacular. It's a great place to golf when you want to play a relaxing round.
work in progress
This course has a long way to go to bring it back to
the condition it was 4 years ago.
The $25.00 / round fee was all the round was worth.
Beautiful views
Really fun and challenging course. Many many trees and sand. The course will even be more difficult when the trees have leaves in them.
It's more in the country so it's nice and quiet.
They are trying very hard to get the course in shape. The fairways are coming along. The price was excellent for 18 holes of golf.
Great Scenery
Beautiful day amidst beautiful surroundings, the scenery is great. Some of the greens are in need of repair, but overall a nice day on the course
Poor Shape but Good Value!!
If you want to play a great track of golf on a course in poor condition for circa $20 then this is the course for you. Have played this course many times over the years but this is the worse condition I have ever see it in. A shame really because this is a wonderful track of golf. Fortunately for them, they recognize their course is only worth so much in the shape it is in and charge accordingly...I hope things improve next year as I would play here more often if in better shape.
fairness
The course was in very good shape.Much better than last year. Will play here again.
The Revival
Our playing partners indicated that the new owners of Rio Rico were determined to revive a course that had been left to deteriorate and it was evident that they were working hard to achieve that goal but there is still quite a bit to be done. At the present time it plays a bit rough, which is reflected in the green fees, but the overall design still provides many delights.
New owners are making improvements.
Should be in great shape in another few months, but probably next year to be fair. It needed work: lot of ducks on a few holes created damage over the years, wandering cattle have been corralled by the owner so that's good (they are having a steak fry on Feb. 20th, 9 holes and meal $20, wonder if there is any connection). Greens need a lot of work, bunkers have new sand and are being shaped week to week.
it was a good course, greens need work
It looks like they are making improvements. In time it will be a great course.
Horrible customer service
The worst customer service ever. An older guy who was at the club house during the morning hours was very rude to us. It seemed that he was already upset when we got there and was extremely unprofessional. He acted as if he was doing us a favor for being there at a public course where we pay to play. It is not the customers fault that the old guy has to work at 80 yoa. Will never go back to that place. If the keep up these kind of people working there soon they'll go broke like palo duro.
Don't bother
Had a t-time around 1PM and had to wait almost one hour for a cart. Then the pace of play was so slow we quit after 9 holes. Lots of golfers who were struggling and slow. Condition was still a problem. Some of the greens consisted of dirt patches. Jones Sr. would be rolling in his grave if he saw his namesake. You get what you pay for.
Staff was Great !!
We took a group of 12 players and had tier lunch special A great bargin. The staff was very accommodating in having our lunchs prepared for us to pick up at the turn.
The fairways are in fairly good shape, but some of the greens were rough, But they are working on getting them restored from previous damage. All 12 players heartly agreed to play again next week
Great value!
The golf course was packed when we arrived and we had to wait 15 min to get carts. The staff handled it very well and was absolutely professional about the situation. I signed up for their promotion called "the green card" when i finished my round. This promotion that RR is offering is the best deal in southern AZ. They offer $150 down for the year and my green fee will be no more than $20 per round. The thing I like best is my guests will never pay more than $25. I hope this will help RR get back on the map like it once was! The course conditions have been improving tremendously and I look forward to a great year playing and dining at RRGC.
Try it out, you will not be disappointed!
Course layout is very good.
The course has made some improvements over the last year, however much improvement remains. Tee boxes and fairways were in fairly good shape. The greens need a lot of work and improvement as they are grainy, bumpy and dead in spots. I had thought that a management change of last year would yield the course in much better condition than it presently is showing. This course is a great layout if only maintained in better and/or improved conditions. It is a course worth playing if you can get a discounted green fee and exhibit some patience.
rio rico
Many moleholes on the fairways. Greens were fair condition. Course was fun, and would play again
Frosty mornings
I played last week and it is the time of the season for frost at Rio Rico. I got off the freeway and my car temp said 38 when i pulled into the golf course it was 29 degrees. The course sits below canyons so the temp takes more time to warm up than normal. We had a 7:30 tee time but did'nt get off until 9:15. The delay was actually enjoyable! The guy in the golf shop gave us free coffee, and had a nice fire going. We kicked back and watched the golf channel until the frost lifted. The course was in much better shape than this time last year but still needs some work on the greens. Fairways and tee boxes are better than other courses in the area. I did appreciate the course holding us back until the frost lifted because it shows they care about what they are doing. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
you get what you pay for
when we arrived the attendant informed us we would have to walk
as it had rained and no karts were allowed due to conditions
they did offer complimentary pull karts
I would liked to have been informed of this in advance
We had no rain gear or appropriate footwear thinking we would be riding and not walking
there was one other golfer on the course and not at all soggy
there are kart paths and karts should have been allowed
I feel the attendant didn't want to hang around for a couple of golf karts coming back, we played 9 holes walking and gave up
Great Improvement over August, greens 2 weeks from Excellent.
Winter grass on tee boxes and fairways in good shape. The greens were being aerated by cut striping the day we played..and are now two weeks from being in great condition . Rio Rico has always been one of my favorite courses with a good balance of length and challenge.
