Course Highlights
Colovista delivers excellent value with well-maintained greens, solid fairways, and a challenging back nine layout that consistently impresses. The course conditions and overall experience hold up well against pricier local alternatives.

Located in the Lost Pines area of Bastrop 30 minutes east of Austin, ColoVista Golf Club is a dramatic, immaculate course that’s consistently rated one of the best in Texas. Some actually question whether it is in Texas, given the unusual terrain that the course flows through.

The highlight of the course is the now-famous 191-yard No. 15, which is perched on a bluff overlooking the Colorado River and has been called the prettiest par 3 in Texas. From a cliffside tee, the hole drops over 120 feet down to a green surrounded by bunkers and swales. Because of the wind, the best play is a hard punch shot that at least has the chance to lessen the impact of the breeze.

The front nine is more of a links-style track that definitely contrasts with what you’ll see on the back. The opener is a tough, 468-yard par 4 that plays downhill.

The back nine, considered the better of the two, makes the most of the rugged terrain and extreme elevation changes. The view from the bluff is spectacular; giant pine trees line the fairways, and the 90-degree doglegs all add to the character of the nine.

After being closed for around two years, the course has had a comprehensive renovation that includes re-definition of tee areas and fairways; bunker restoration; re-grassing for improved playing surfaces; and new tee markers, signage and pin flags.

Getting there : From Austin, take Hwy. 71 east to McAllister Rd.. Turn right and follow the signs to the course, which is located 4 miles east of the river in Bastrop.

Horrible conditions. Half the greens were sand or mud and most of the fairways are filled with patches of hard clay.

Terrible Condition

Absolutely the worst conditioned golf course in Central Texas! Nothing but weeds and hard dirt. Golf cart speeds are pathetic, I can walk faster. The fact that they charge $40-$50 a round is a joke! The conditions of ColoVista Golf Club is barely worth paying $15-$20 a round.

Colovista

I’ve played this course for years and worst it’s ever been. Fairways and cart paths are brutal. Bumpy, lots of hard pan, little grass. Greens although they look terrible and diseased in many spots roll good but visually look horrible. I will always love the layout here....just hard to see the course go from GPS in carts, best greens around, etc to what it has become today

very poor condition

The fairways and greens on the front 9 are in terrible condition. Dirt and sand everywhere. Bunkers full of water or mud. Back 9 is somewhat better. The greens on back 9 at least have grass.

Worst golf course in Austin

This course should not be open to the public for play with the condition it is in. I walked off after 9 holes. There was no grass on any green. They are stealing money from the public and don’t even mention every single green and fairway on the course is burnt out.

Worst course I’ve even been on

Booked a Tuesday round and got worried when I read the reviews. Let me be very clear this course is absolutely in terrible conditions. First tee box was a complete mud pit. Then you get into the fairways that have dead patches and it looks like it hasn’t been watered in years. Greens are absolute concrete, went Into the clubhouse to ask for a refund and the attendant proceeded to challenge me to play him in golf for asking for a refund. Do not waste your time or money. This course shouldn’t even be on here

Course Condition was terrible

The course conditions were terrible. standing water and mud from irrigation. bare patches in fairways. Newly laid sod on one fairway. Poor job, just laid sod on top of old and left a 3" height differently. Look like a patchwork quilt.

Bare spots on some tee boxes. Greens are the only good thing. By the time you reach the green your already frustrated by the poor conditions to get there. I won't be back.

Great course for the value

Great course with some cool views. Pine forest golf club makes this place look like Augusta. Front nine is mostly flat with no trees. The back nine is really cool with a lot of elevation changes. Also much more trees on the back nine which gives it a different feel from the front nine. Greens were in good shape too. Overall I would definitely play here again and wishing I could have played the back nine twice.

Back 9 in much better shape than front 9

The morning we arrived, there was a tournament starting on the front 9 so we were directed to the back 9. With the exception of minor fairway repairs, the holes were in good shape and the pace of play was not an issue. Playing was enjoyable with a surprise view on a par 3. As we made the turn to the front 9, it was like playing a totally different course. Playing the front 9 was difficult. If I go back, I would ask to play the back 9 twice.
