Tale of two nines!
The front nine starts off straight forward and much easier than the back nine. The back nine winds thru trees and up a slight hill alond some homes. Greens on this course were good and it shows they have been working on the watering and fairways. Friendly staff from check in to the resuarant and bar. Great patio under the tree's overlooking the views!
Public course inPayson
Course needs work and they are working on some areas. It is a zig zag course and some fairways run parallel with the roads, so if you tend to slice or hook your drive, you could lose the ball in a car windshield. Luckily the course is pretty wide. Not too many obstacles. Ground is hard and dry, so you can get a good (or bad) bounce and roll.
The five-some beginner “just out for fun” group in front of us had already let two other groups go around them. The five-some plays very slow and even would drive twice per ball, instruct each other, and put out every single putt and sometimes reset their balls to try again! They did offer for us to play through, but by that time we only had a few more holes to play.
Still we had a fun time and you can’t beat the beauty of Payson or he people that live here!
Not Bad
Drove from Phoenix about 1.5 hours to play. Was immediately allowed to tee off...ended up having another single and twosome join to complete a foursome. Pace of play was great, had to play through one twosome and had a single play through us. Course was dry and only had two water coolers on course without any beverage service. Overall very fun round with some interesting holes on the back nine. Will play there again.
Don't waste your time or money.
The staff in the pro shop (if you can find anyone working) are extremely rude and very clearly hate their jobs. Tee times are stacked on top of each other and the carts are ready to fall apart at any turn or bump. I payed $60 for a tee time in the middle of June, and quit after 9 holes due to pace of play. 3 hours for 9 holes is criminal. When I asked for a refund I was told "that's just how it is" when courses in busier cities don't even have that type of slow play. Awful place, awful people. Spend your money elsewhere, don't waste your day!
