Pinon Hills Golf Course

Second time here. Last time was solo, slightly cooler weather. This time the starter offered to have a couple of guys that ended up making play even more fun. Course was very well kept and a mid-handicap player like me got a great round in. Can’t wait to play again.

Course flowed well. Fairways were fantastic condition. Greens rolled nice but a little slower than use to, but still good speed. Staff was great. Lucky enough to play with a staff member who gave me helpful tips.

I'll start by saying that I've waited over 20 years to play this course. It was once the top course in the US for under $40. I paid more, of course, and I felt it definitely should have been in better condition. The greens were excellent and it really seems that the greens keeper does all he can with what he's dealing with. The rough was over 10 inches in some areas and when I asked one of the workers he said their ,mowers are broken and the city won't give them money to fix them. Very sad to see management not understand the value of keeping things kept up. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for better conditions, as the layout was fantastic.

Beautiful vistas, challenging course. Best public course I've played on in many years. Hard to believe such a gem is located in northwest New Mexico.

The course is not long, but most fairways are narrow. The greens are big, HOWEVER, all are three tiered, which means that they are actually small greens.

If you can, play with someone who has played the course before and can help guide you around the course. I hit some shots I thought were good and ended up in a bad spot for the next swing.

Not recommended for a 20+ handicapper. Also, woman's/senior's tee boxes does not give that much of an advantage.

The course was awesome in perfect condition great layout had a wonderful time and would play it again anytime. The only drawback was pace of play and I know that could change daily- it was our day to get behind a slow and drinking group

I had a great first experience at Pinon Hills. Loved the layout, very challenging and pretty course. Everyone was very friendly. Can’t wait to try it in the spring/ summer!

What a lovely course. Very interesting elevation changes and lies- even in yellow winter. Course was mostly empty and cart path only, which was fine. I mostly aimed to stay near cart paths.

Pin placement on some greens made me laugh and want to ask the groundskeeper who hurt them that morning lol. That was pretty fun to craft iron shots onto the greens.

Playing with boulders and waste areas was a bonus. Got a couple of member bounces off them that extended yardage on top of the added yardage I get when playing above 4000 ft elevation.

Course staff from check-in to the starter, Jack, were very friendly. Looking forward to seeing them at a later time when I’m back in town for work. Players on the course were also quite friendly and courteous to this single first-timer, allowing me to play through 3 consecutive groups. I ended up finishing 18 in less than 3 hours and still enjoyed the scenery and didn’t feel rushed.

Great course! Very well maintained. Definitely a must play if you’re in the area.
