Cypress at Cypresswood Golf Club

This course used to be a good deal but when I played yesterday it looked like someone poured diesel over all of the greens. The fairways and teeboxes were good but the greens were horrible. Hole 13 green was being redone or something? And the hole was just in the middle of the fairway and was the size of a soccer ball and was 20 yds past the 150 marker which I didn’t realize before I hit my shot. The proshop didn’t mention this to us at all which is beyond me. Go play somewhere else until they figure out what they’re doing.

Will charge you for a cart and then tell you how they don’t have enough and you’ll need to ride with strangers. Manager told me they’re more worried about their 20 dollar cart fee than a 110 dollar tee time. Save your money and go somewhere they actually take care of their bunkers and tee boxes. If I could give no stars I would. No club house for multiple years now. Range is barely operating most days. Plenty of other great choices other than here.

I want to preface this by saying that I've played here once and my experience far exceeded some of the recent reviews. This is a country club quality course for less than $100 rate. The fairways are wide and perfect along with the greens being in perfect condition and rolled true. The layout is fantastic, most of the holes pose some sort of difficulty to them and really makes you think about the shot you will try and hit, it is a PGA qualifier course after all. Not to mention there are no houses on the course which makes it very nice and quiet to play. The course itself is beautiful and I stopped to take in some views on several different holes. The pace of play is slow but not because of poor management, its just a very popular place to play and golfers play quick here. Overall I would absolutely recommend playing here.

AVOID THIS GOLF COURSE (only played Tradition). The absolute worst value at this price-point for public golf that I’ve seen in the entire greater Houston area.

I arrived for my 7a tee time as a single on a cold Thursday morning to be told I was being moved back to join a threesome at 7:15a. Fine, not the end of the world. The curmudgeon in the “clubhouse” could not have been less helpful after informing me about the time change and charging my $70 green fee to bother informing me that keys were in the carts and where the first tee was located – it’s about a quarter mile down a tree-lined road from a far corner of the parking lot. After figuring out where to go, the starter (friendliest person on their staff from what I could tell) noticed I was a single and shouted to the single on the tee (7:01am) that there was another single that would be joining him. So, I rushed over and teed off in front of a foursome and the single who was already pulling away in his cart and off I went at my original tee time.

We arrived to the first green and quickly noticed there had been no morning maintenance. There was so much water/dew on the greens that every single putt had a rooster-tail. This was the case for the entire round. Green speeds were slow and inconsistent and attaining any sense of lag/touch was a futile effort. Numerous greens were covered in tree debris, pine needles, and twigs – at least this we could deal with ourselves. The guy I was paired with was familiar with the course and stated that he'd never seen the greens as bad as they were.

I attempted to record my score after the first hole and the scorecard which appeared to be new and placed on the steering wheel for that day’s play, was completely filled out by a foursome and their riveting Nassau’s from the prior day.

The tee boxes on the par 3’s were nearly impossible to find a flat place to put a peg in the ground that wasn’t a sand-filled divot. It was literally something out of a @ClubProGuy post on Twitter. Photo posted is the 8th tee.

I know golf courses are not immune to inflationary pressure, labor shortages, etc. However, I left the course that day feeling completely extorted for having paid $70. I tried reaching out directly to the course later that day to discuss my concern, but received no response.

I played a 9-hole course a few months ago that doubles as disc golf and is also in dreary condition, but it was $12. The value at that course is 10 times better than Cypresswood and I’d suggest anyone considering playing here, go check that place out instead if you’re at all concerned with value.

The last time I played the tradition was about 20 years ago when it was an absolute gem! I was very shocked that the separate tradition clubhouse building was shutdown and appears to have been for years as I noticed during the cart drive from the the mobile home clubhouse (apparently the original was torn down perhaps a fire) to the first tee. Several greens were missing grass in many places and 16 was a temporary green. They don't take t times for a single and when I called to check for an opening and asked about recent aeration it would have been nice to have been told some greens are bad. I would have went elsewhere.

This place is definitely taken for granted the people that come to play here on a normal basis. They “promise” a hot dog and chips after your Tuesday round but they don’t even cook any to start with. In my opinion that’s being deceitful or just plain lying!

We booked a round on the Tradition course only to find out the back 9 was closed for bridge repairs. Come on tell your patrons that the back 9 is closed when calling or at least on the website! Just sorry management! And then your staff try’s to talk it up because it rained we had a delay on the repairs. BS! Bridge repairs don’t happen over night.

Not at all happy with this outing. Think we’ll give Cypresswood a year or two to get there “crap” together before we come back.

Played here in one of my golf leagues. The greens had been recently punched and sanded so they were a bit slow. Tee boxes were in decent shape. The fairways were absolutely the best I have played on in months. Bunkers were in decent shape. Fun course to play. Quite a bit easier than its sister course, Tradition.

Got out to play a couple of rounds in Houston. First stop was at Cypresswood to play the Tradition course.

There are two courses here, and on this Saturday they were expecting a combined 500 rounds of play! That's incredible.

The facilities are modest from the clubhouse to the practice area, but sufficient to get you ready to play some golf. The staff was friendly enough, but they did seem perhaps a little understaffed and/or under pressure dealing with so many golfers on property.

I was very excited to try this course out as I am a fan of some of Keith Foster's other courses (the Bandit and the Quarry).

As expected, the layout was very enjoyable with a nice variety of holes. You get some long par 4s and some short ones (including the drivable 17th). The par 5s range from reachable to definite three shotters. The par 3s are all on the long side, but they are all nice holes with different looks.

Throughout the course there are some strategically placed bunkers to challenge your ability to manage risk. Some on tee shots, and also on par 5 second shots. Hole 12 was my favorite example of this as you need to carefully navigate the bunkers on your first two shots to leave yourself with a good shot into the green.

Hole 14 seems to be perhaps a "signature" hole type par 3 with a visually intimidating (though largely out of play) bunker spanning most of the area between tee and green. From this point on, the course really kicks into high gear for a strong finishing stretch. On hole 15 you are faced with the first real forced carry of the day on a left slanting par 4. A tough looking shot after 14 holes of much more welcoming looks off the tee. 16, 17, and 18 all continue with an increased amount of water/trouble compared to the rest of the course... but if you can hit good shots both 17 and 18 are good birdie opportunities.

In general, the conditions across the course were above average to good. It was fairly obvious the greens were getting a lot of traffic: many spike marks, bumps, and unrepaired ball marks (seriously people, fix your ball marks!). Despite that, they rolled well and were a respectable pace. It must be tough to keep a course that playable with so many rounds, so kudos to the team there.

This is a very fun course, and a pretty decent value. It's right on the border of being 4 stars for me. The layout is there, but the impact of increased play on course conditions and pace of play are notable. I would still strongly recommend this track for your Houston adventure.

Played this course for my brothers birthday and was beyond impressed. One of the nicest courses I’ve played and broke 100 for my first time here.

Always very solid course for the money. No houses throughout whole course, always love that. Some holes run right along side one another so some can be a bit chaotic at times. Geeens are solid. All in all, great conditions and course for the money.

Tradition course is top notch. No houses along the whole course, greens & fairways in top shape. Layout is very challenging, but not ridiculous. Most fairways are pretty open so much problems losing balls.

It was my first time in this course! Nice fairways a few green had some small dried areas but in general good! Challenging.

Good time with buddies

cloudy and overcast but the course drained fast after rain on the previous day. 90 degree rule made it easier to finish at a decent time.

Fairways are very plush and nice. Unfortunately the greens are not. Looks like the greens have some type of disease. on certain holes very bumpy and it's not puttable. Played here 3 weeks ago and same thing. Not sure when or if they can get it fixed.

It's unfortunate. Tradition course is one of my favorite public course in Houston. Probably won't come back for a while. Greens are the most important measuring stick when rating courses

Need to cut your rough lower to make it easier to find off fairway hits which means people will spend less time looking for their ball and help speed up play

I have always liked this course. Great layout, wide fairways, no houses, great condition, true greens, playable bunkers. Had a great time today. Played in 3.5 hours teeing off early. One of the Top 5 in the area along with Woodforest, Memorial Park, Wilderness and GCOH Tournament course. It's not a screaming bargain like Gus Wortham, but it's not pricey either.

This was my first time playing The Tradition Course at Sypresswood. I really like the course. The conditions were great, the layout was fun. It was HOT as blazes (heat index of 104) but that is to be expected for the middle of July.

Conditions were excellent. The fairways were very nice, bunkers were good with many rakes to help maintain the bunkers. The greens were very good except the greenskeeper who mowed the greens did not mow the edges of the greens so if you were near the edge of the green you were in grass a couple days old with cutting and had to put through that grass until you reached the mowed area of the green (everywhere except the edges).. The greens rolled well and true with a few tricky undulations. The rough was thick and was challenging as your ball would sink down in the long rough (you should be penalized and have a challenge if you are off line and not in the fairway),

The layout was fun and very nice with lots of variety. There were some very easy holes and some very challenging holes. Great variety.

I really appreciated the water every 3 holes and the Mango ice towels every 7 or 8 holes were AWESOME. I LOVED the Mango Ice towels. It was a VERY hot day so the water and iced towels were much appreciated. The price was great for such a quality, fun course.

I would play this course again if I ever come back to Houston. I would recommend this course as well to those in the area.

The tradition was a nice course with a few headaches but all in all was a great round. The staff was friendly, and everyone was nice. I set up a single tee time for 7:35 and when I got there they told me the 3-some they paired me with became a 4-some and I got bumped to 7:58. That was very frustrating since I had a meeting in Dallas later that afternoon, but it wasn’t horrible, and I understand. They gave me some range balls but overall starting my day like that was frustrating.

Then to add to my frustration nobody that worked there told me that the tradition course was .25 miles from the clubhouse down an access road and that there was a parking lot down there.

So, I walked down and then had to walk back after the round, which just added to the distance and frustration which I took out on the #1 tee box, hahah.

As luck would happen, it worked out. I was paired with 2 easy going gentlemen who knew the course and happened to be retired Navy like I was. We got along great and the pace was fantastic. Walked the course in under 4, only pushing the group in front of us on 2 holes and never saw anyone behind us.

Conditions were mostly decent. Fairways were nice, bunkers were decent, but the greens were interesting. They rolled well and true, but there were some patches on the edge that never came into play for us. They cut the rough thick and it was challenging in some parts. The layout was nice, and some very challenging holes had I not had some previously experienced partners with me.

I like to walk when I play so I appreciated the water every 3 holes and the Mango ice towels every 7 or 8 holes. It was a hot day by the end of the round, but it was worth it. The price was fine, and they gave military discount to me which was very nice.

I would play this course again if I ever come back down to Houston. I would recommend this course as well to those in the area.
