Llano River Golf Course

About
Llano River Golf Course has the wonderful distinction of being laid out along the scenic Llano River, with beautiful views and great golf. This course should be a must-play anytime you’re touring through the immediate area.
In addition to the scenery, the most memorable feature of this course is the tiny, postage-stamp-sized greens that require pinpoint accuracy and a solid short game for pars. In fact, these well-manicured greens compare favorably to the tricky burial mound greens of Alpine and Marfa, and are surely some of the smallest targets in the state.
Mature trees line the fairways, and water hazards come into play on only three holes.
The best birdie opportunity is the short, par 5 13th hole, playing only 437 yards. Good golfers can get there in two and give it a roll at an eagle putt. The ender is talked about as the signature, a difficult 502-yard par 5 with out-of-bounds along the left as well as behind the green.
Getting there : In Llano turn left on the north side of the courthouse and head out to the course.

Course in great shape.
Staff there is doing their best to keep up with the river flooding and the brush growth. Fun place to play and great value
Great place and value.
A great place to experience and return. Holes along the water are great. Some signs of recent flooding with debris from the river. Like the stark differences from the front nine to the back nine.
Both are great. Will be back.
Shocking Greens, they're great.
The greens at this golf course are shockingly stellar.
A Little golf for every level
Great place. Front nine with elevation views and target play and back nine open with views along the river. Hole lengths give you different choices for clubs and play strategies. Great value.
Great little track along the Llano River
I've been thinking of making the 90 minute drive from dripping springs out to Llano for a while to play this course and wasn't really expecting much but it was a pretty cool track.
Front nine was really interesting (and a bit confusing) - with lots of trees in fairways that obstructed the greens (so not always sure where we should go when hitting shots). It was also pretty tight which added some nice challenge. Very pretty with great views of the river and even some decent (surprising) elevation changes. Hole 7 was beautiful with an elevated tee shot towards the river and 8 was another very cool Par 3 hole along the river.
The greens were in great shape and fairways were decent enough (with a number of dirt patches under big oaks).
Back nine was a flat, pretty wide open, back & forth layout with a few interesting holes, but a nice change up vs the front 9.
Price was awesome compared to courses we play in the Austin area and the drive up 71 thru the mountains was really cool and also made the 3 hour round trip more palatable. We'll be back!
Nice course
The course is relatively short but has some interesting holes; some with pretty views of the Llano River. Cart paths are rough but the greens were in great shape—especially given the heat and lack of rain in the hill country!
Best Greens In The Hill Country
Great course for the money. Won’t find better greens on a public course….they beat some private courses.
Fairways can get shaggy this time of year but the course plays fair and consistent.
Mowers
Great country course, terrific layout only negative was the fairways needed mowing badly
Easy layout, really nice Bent grass greens!
Great layout on the Llano River. Wide fairways and a shorter layout makes this an enjoyable round where Driver/8 iron is a reality on the par 4's. The traps have been filled in so no worry about sand play. And again the greens were incredible! I had no idea there were still Bent grass greens in Texas. The only neg was there was no kitchen but only 10 minutes from the square so no big deal.
Improved conditions
They are really working this course into great shape. We've played here for a few years and thus is the best I've ever seen it. The rates are the best around!
Epic greens
If you’re tired of playing on courses that don’t have a clue about keeping the greens in tip top shape, give Llano a try. Best I’ve seen in Texas in 40 years of golf. Pace of play was also outstanding.
Best bent grass greens in Texas
Some fairway’s were sparse of decent grass. The grass bunkers were not very nice but the greens were spectacular! Pace of play on a Saturday of masters week was incredible compared to Austin area courses. Definitely will be back!
