Course was in great shape for all of the rain during the week
Played 18 holes in 5 hours and 30 minutes which is slow for Algonkian. Nice tree lined park land course which normally has the rough mowed down to a reasonable length to make it easier to find balls and keep the pace of play up. Tee boxes were in good shape, fairways were in great shape, and greens were slow from moisture but were in pretty good shape as well.
Great value
Really enjoyed playing here for the first time. Staff was very friendly, course was nice, and pace of play was good.
Thank you for your review! We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your round here at Algonkian! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Thank you for your review! We appreciate your feedback.
Impressed
Played this course multiple times over a few years, it’s in the best conditions I’ve seen. Tee boxes are good, fairway is great, greens are nice. No complaints on that! However, their range, pro shop, and pace of play are poor. Waited for two groups to tee off each time. Range is beyond sad, and pro shop has no character. I will play again, just not on a weekend!
Thank you for your review and your compliments on course conditions. We agree, the golf course is in great shape right now because of a combination of good weather and hard work by our golf maintenance staff. We are disappointed, however, by your review of the range, pro shop, and pace of play. There are several improvements to our facilities coming soon including a major site improvement project that began this week. This project will renovate and overhaul a large portion of our cart staging area, cart shed, and areas near the chipping green and driving range. Expected completion of construction is July ’23. Other improvements to our range facility will include new targets, bag stands, and dividers. Those are expected by years end. We also have new range balls that we are continuing to filter into our ball machine.
Regarding pace of play, we are sorry to hear that you had a poor experience. With golf exploding in popularity over the last few years, we have seen a record number of rounds as well as many new golfers playing our course. The negative to this is sometimes pace of play can be an issue, especially on the weekends during our busiest times. On any given day, we have at least 1-2 marshals on duty during each shift to monitor pace of play. However, slow play can still be an issue. To combat this, Algonkian, along with our sister courses Brambleton and Pohick Bay, are in the process of implementing a pace of play campaign which will focus on educating the public on how to improve slow play. Part of this will be updating our current pace of play policies to better suit the current state of golf.
Regardless, I am happy to hear that you will be back to play our course again! I hope next time you will find that we are continuing to try to improve our facilities and operations. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact the golf course manager at (703) 450-4655 ext. 105.
Thank you for your review! We hope to see you again soon!
Great Shape!
Course was in great shape. Not a particularly exciting course, but for the cost around the DC area, its a great value for the shape it is in. Will definitely play there again.
Thank you for your review! We take pride in providing great course conditions at an affordable rate for everyone. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your round at Algonkian and we hope to see you again soon!
Thank you for your 5-star review! We are proud to have earned this rating from you. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
On-Course Staff were awful
Golf was good, course in great shape. Rangers were all over us on the back nine for some reason. We tee’d off at 1:40 and finished at 6:00, 4 hour and 20 minute round. We had to wait constantly on the front 9 as there were several slow groups in front of us. They all left after the front.
Regardless, the behavior of the rangers on the back nine, who, for whatever reason, felt it was their duty to hound us and ruin the pace for our group. So much so, that I’d prefer to wait a while before I play there again.
First, I would like to thank you for your review and giving us a 4-star rating despite having an issue with our marshals. Algonkian, along with most other golf courses, has seen an incredible amount of play over the last several years as the golf industry has exploded in popularity. With this boom, we have seen a record number of rounds as well as many new golfers playing the course. The negative to this is that sometimes pace of play can be an issue. Our marshals are trained to monitor pace of play and intervene, when necessary, which can include asking a group to pick up their pace if they’re playing slower than the set pace.
However, when enforcing pace of play, our marshals are trained to do this in the friendliest and most professional manner possible. In no way should any player ever feel that an employee or volunteer of Algonkian Golf Course is “hounding” or “ruining” their round or experience. As the golf course manager, I do not take a rating of “Poor” under the Friendliness category lightly and would like to speak with you further about this situation. As a NOVA Parks golf course, we strive to provide the best experience for our customers.
If you would like to discuss this further, please give me a call at 703-450-4655 ext. 105.

The Promised Land
Algonkian is a true gem. Please keep it that way. The land is hallowed grounds and the course is a delight. Only recommendation would be for some of the volunteer starters to just chill a little bit, this isn't Augusta!!!

Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
Thank you for your review! Although you had a slow round, we appreciate your kind words about the course conditions. We agree that the course is in great shape right now thanks to the hard work of our maintenance team and cooperation from Mother Nature.
A pace of 5.5hrs is much too slow and we hope you have a much faster round next time you play. We strive to make efforts to maintain our set pace of play by having course marshals monitor play. With last week’s rain, we did have to switch to cart path only which slows down play. Again, 5.5hrs is not up to our standards and we’ll continue to make efforts to improve.
NOVA Parks golf management is currently working on a pace of play campaign which will involve improving ways to educate golfers on how they can improve slow play including selecting the proper tees to play from, on-course etiquette, and emphasizing “ready golf.” More on this to come. We hope to see you again very soon!
