Great value
Excellent conditions both fairways and greens. Excellent wildlife interaction. Pace of play among the best in Fairfax County. Our round was 4 hours and 20 minutes with carts, and we had a beginner.

Algonkian Aug ‘23
First time playing this mostly flat course. Course is in good condition and Marshall ensures golfers are moving along.
Driving range, chipping and putting greens available as well. Looking forward to a replay!

Course Review
Very nice course especially for the money. Club house needs a little updating and the driving range needs an overhaul as well. Only issue we ran into was pace of play was extremely slow due to a group two in front of us.

Great Value
Course is in great shape. Very few bare patches. Greens and fairways are slow but very consistent.

We have seen several heavy thunderstorms during the first part of July which has slowed down the greens and fairways a bit, but a stretch of dry weather will get us firm and fast once again. Too many bugs
I play at algonkian often, but during the last couple weeks I was bitten by so many bugs. My face was so swollen and painful after playing. I could not focus on my game. I don't know why this course has so many bugs compared to other courses.
I would like to first acknowledge that we are sorry to hear about your experience being bitten by bugs while playing your round. You were most likely bitten by mosquitoes and/or gnats which are prevalent this time of year. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about flying insects like gnats or mosquitoes on our golf course. Just like any wildlife, this is their habitat, and we must play amongst them. The hot and humid July weather makes for perfect conditions for flying species such as mosquitoes and gnats in which there are plenty. Also, with the golf course being located next to the Potomac River, this also adds to their population.
Our recommendation is to apply plenty of bug spray before you play your round (please apply bug spray away from any grass surfaces as it can damage the turf). We also sell bug spray in our Pro Shop if you don’t have any. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or concerns, please contact the Golf Course Manager at 703-450-4655 ext. 105.

Too many bugs.
Last week I was bitten by too many bugs.
My face was really swollen and painful.
I don't know why algonkian has more bitting bugs
than the others. I hope they do something about it.
Golflover59, you seem to have left two, nearly identical reviews about being bitten by bugs while playing Algonkian Golf Course. Please see the response on your previous review dated 7/1/23, for an explanation of this situation. If this happened during the same round, it is unfortunate that you posted two reviews regarding the same situation. Especially because both reviews revolve around bug bites, in which we cannot control. If these were two separate rounds, we highly recommend applying bug spray before you play your next round.
