Golfer Reviews
Crappy staff, pretty course
Our tee group did not have one person show up. The staff added another person to our group. Not ideal, but whatever. We asked to be refunded for our friend since the spot was filled. Staff member said not his problem and told us to go away. I suppose he's right in that it's not his problem, but kind of crappy.
On the course, they had a few course watchers roaming around. You'd think they'd be helpful or fun, but they were like old crank hallway patrols scolding players if they took their cart a few feet off the pathway, or if someone was taking too long.
Greens and Rough
Greens are in rough shape and the rough closest to the fairways could be cut back more. To think for right next to the fairway. It’s like a penalty stroke for most folks.
Unfortunately with all of the rain the course has received in recent weeks we have been unable to mow the rough on our normal cutting schedule. We apologize if your experience at Algonkian wasn't a great one and we hope to see you back again when we have had time to dry out and return to normal conditions.
Good value
Not very challenging, but the course is in good shape, staff is friendly, and it’s not very expensive. Driving range is mediocre but ok for a warmup.
Mower needed
I have played this course on and off for 35 years. This could be a great golf course if maintained. The rough looks like it hasn't been cut in over a month which leads to very slow play when looking for your ball if not in the fairway. The fairways could be really nice but it was like hitting out of the rough. Cut the grass! Other courses in the area are in far better shape.

But to date we’ve experienced 14”" of rain in the last 20 days including tropical storm Isaias that had just moved through. When you have that much rain in such a short period of time you simply cannot keep a normal mowing schedule”.

Good course - Not very difficult
Course was in solid condition, and staff was very nice and attentive. Pace was not the management’s fault. Round started well and then it became a traffic jam on back 9. No clue why. Layout was nothing crazy, little to now water. Pin placement raised the difficult which was good. Open and generous fairways and little elevation change. Beginner to mid-level golfers will be happy here.

Course is in great shape
We had some significant rain on two of the days before I played, so the greens were very soft. But, the rest of the course was not bad at all.

Phenomenal staff, solid course, slow pace of play
This was my first time golfing at this course. I was very impressed with the number of staff, the quality of the carts, the organization overall, and the course was in good condition. It was one of the slower courses I have played, and I don’t consider myself particularly great at golf. My teatime was at 5:30 PM, and I was surprised at the congestion of players. I would golf here again.

Excellent Condition
The course was in really nice condition. The grass in the fairways make the ball sit up like a mat at the driving range. Bunkers and greens were in great shape as well.

Better than expected
It’s been at least 10 years since my last round here. Back then, it was beginning to get somewhat rough. They have done a pretty good job, at least this year, of maintaining the course. I will probably play here again this year.

It is unfortunate that you had a less than great experience at Algonkian. As we explained the day of your reservation, prepaid rounds bought through third party websites must be refunded by the vendor and not at the pro shop..If you would like to discuss your experience further please reach out to the golf course manager at rcorder@nvrpa.org.
