Good value for money
They have a starter with an obnoxious attitude and behavior that is hostile. I played with 2 other gentlemen (not known to me) who also encountered the same behavior. I play golf to relax but this starter's unwelcoming comments increased my stress level.
Nice Course
I have played this course multiple times and it is quite challenging for the average golfer. Only downside is slow play on the weekends and while the staff is very nice, they aren't doing anything to keep play on pace. You have to hit it long and straight to score well. If you don't hit it long, move up to the next tee box it will make your round much more enjoyable as well as keep pace of play.
Course is flat, easy to walk
While the pace of play was a little slow for mid-week, we had a very enjoyable time at Algonkian. The course is flat with a few water hazards and many trees. Keep your ball in the fairway and your round is easy. Trees line most of the fairways making this a beautiful course to play. Greens in good shape.
A fair course for the average player
This course all lays out in front of you. Open tree lined fairways with plenty of room to be offline a little. Greens were in nice shape. The wildlife is all over the course. If you see one deer you will see one hundred. The pace of play was nice, 18 holes in 4 hours.
Long and Narrow makes for challenging game
Course is well maintained. Satff are very friendly and helpful. If you want a challenging game try Algonkian. You need to hit the ball long and straight.
good for the money
This is my favorite of the 3 municipal NoVA courses. Overall it looks as though the course is maintained fairly well. Bunkers could have new sand, but otherwise for the price I would say it is an acceptable value for the money.
Distance is the game
Long beginner's course, which was good as I am a fairly new golfer. Course is heavily played but the pace of play was not horrible. Most holes are tree lined but not densley wooded so if you hit one right or left you will usually be able to play your ball which also plays to the beginner aspect. Course was not "pristine" but decent for a public course and most of the staff were pleasant enough. Will return especially at the low rates. $30 for 18 and a cart is hard to beat even on a weekday afternoon.
The pace of play was very slow. I never saw a marshall. Course needs soem attention esp the greens.

Satisfactory Municipal
Slow greens
Flat layout
Nominal water hazzard
Modest sand bunkers
Good Value
The best thing about this course is it's a good value. Our tee time was at 12:30 on a Sunday and it was only $30/player including cart. The pace of play was really slow (took a little over 5 hours to play), but that's part of playing golf in Northern Virginia. The course itself is in pretty good shape, but the greens could use some work. They are really slow and not very smooth, which can be frustrating. Overall the course is pretty decent and the price is right.
A very forgiving course
The course is very forgiving. The airways are wide enough, there are only a couople of esay water harzards.
Fun course
I'm a new golfer, so I drove from the red tees. This course was nice but challenging enough for me.
The course was in great condition. Greens played fast, with tough pin locations. Rough presented some problems, but fair - mostly due to heavy rain.
The course was in great condition. Greens played fast, with tough pin locations. Roughs presented some problems, but fair - mostly due to heavy rain from the previous night. Slow play detracted from my overall enjoyment of the round. Marshall was seen once on the front and once again on the back nine. I would play Algonkian again.
Good course, well maintained and fun to play.
The course is pretty straight forward. It is fairly long but not a lot of trouble areas. Play was a little slow for my liking, so make sure you're not in a hurry.
starter is curt; rude
the started does not treat people very well. he is short and rude for no real reason.
Hone your skills
This is a great beginners course with straight fairways and a few dog legs here and there to spice things up a bit. Ruff isn't long and if you miss the fairway you can definitely recover. A great résumé builder or new or less experienced golfers. Fairway and greens are in great condition for a public course and for the price. An overall enjoyable course.
Decent Course
Not too shabby for a county course. Pace of play was decent however we got caught behind walkers. Greens were in great condition and it appears they are really turning the course around this year.
Great Price. Nice course
I got a 12:24 Tee Time on a Thursday for $42 for 2 players/18 holes. If you plan ahead, and have a flexible schedule you can find some great deals on Golfnow.com. The course was generally in good condition, although I admit, since I don't play often I'm not very picky. Will use play the course and use GolfNow again!
SLOW, Slow, slow
The greens were very slow compared to many other courses within 30 miles. Fairways were acceptable, rough was consistent and fair. Not the longest of tracks but generally flat and somewhat narrow. The staff was pleasant and cordial. The pace of play was a bit slow due to two foursomes that held up play. The marshal got one of the groups to speed up but did little to affect the pace of the second group. My group finished at least one-half hour later than we could have.
