One of the Most Challenging Courses
The thing that was most challenging about this course especially being the first time was not really knowing the layout and where the best landings spots were. I was put with some golfers that wanted to play the Black/Gold tees which in hindsight was not within my range for the black tees in some cases. I've heard that links courses can be a challenge being my first time. I felt the greens were in good shape, but several fairways were beat up. It became a frustrating round of golf losing so many balls as several holes slope away from you and your ball would run away. I will definitely play this course again, but will just play from the gold tees and be more strategic. It is a very picturesque course and strategic placements of bunkers and water makes this a challenging for all levels, but I do like the links style.
Strange layout
I really like the way this course is maintained, but it's a very wierd layout. There is really no feel for consistency, every hole is all over the map. It does make for an interesting challenge, it was fun. I liked the look at the creepy old State Hospital cemetery on the back side.
Greens were good, nice roll, very fair.
Play this course, keep on rockin.
Loved the layout
My first time playing the Highlands. I've played multiple rounds at Bowes Creek and can say that this golf course is unique and challenging for many golfers due to forced carries, and in some spots taller fescue. I thought tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. Greens were inconsistent and showed signs of being overplayed(many unfixed ball marks). Pace of play wasn't great, but overall good experience and value.
Great course but singles get shaft
Arrived early for tee time and went to first tee to prep for round. Started states you are paired and on the tee. Rushed through and paired with a golfer who picks a cart that gps is broken.
WOW!
First time playing this course and loved it!
The 5 hours it took to play was an anomaly. The surrounding courses were closed due to flooding from heavy rains. That meant this course was packed with the golfers who had been cancelled on those other courses. I could not believe how fast the greens were after all the rain we had. Now that I know the lay of the land I can't wait to play here again.
Always enjoy playing this course, very fair, a lot of risk reward holes.
course is good shape after two days of rain, drains very well greens were plush and a little slow from previous weather but rolled true.
Awesome course
Great course, great layout. If you are looking for an easy forgiving course this isn’t for you. It is a challenge but I love it
Awesome Track & Perfect Conditions
This is one of the most challenging courses in the western suburbs. The course is in perfect condition - greens rolled very true and the rough and fescue was nice and lush. This is definitely near the top of my favorites list!
a must play in elgin
Course is built around a quarry and is in near perfect condition.Fast greens, many forced carries, and some deep bunkers.Very difficult to walk due to long spaces from greens to tees.Very hilly.Play 18,but walk 27.A course I play whenever I find a deal.Play the corret tees and have fun.
Great course!
Love playing here. Well maintained and great layout. Pretty wide fairways so great driving course but plenty of trouble to make it challenging. Definitely recommend playing.
BEAUTIFUL WELL MAINTAINED COURSE
Beautiful well maintained golf course, friendly staff!
Worth playing regularly. Great fun!
my first time playing highlands after hearing so much about it through friends and after my round, I will not be coming back to play this course. For the money, the course could have better landscaping and fescues are all over the course which makes for looking for your errant shot impossible. Just overall a not so enjoyable round. The staff are really nice and helpful.
For a long course.
The course was in really good shape although the course could have been in better condition as far as golfers not putting Golf marks on the green and not replacing divots in the Fairway they need to be more respectable to the course
Great track
Despite all rhe rain the area has had. Drainage was good, fairways weren't plugging. Kept greens from rolling like they normally do. Little bit slower with less breaks.
