Forest Dunes Golf Club
About
Forest Dunes Golf Club in Roscommon offers one of the best courses in Michigan. British Open Champion Tom Weiskopf designed the course in 1973 and it soon started receiving acclaim as one of the area's toughest rounds. His design includes more traditional elements such as wide fairways and large greens, but there are many challenges in store on this formidable golf course. The front nine, dubbed the "forest nine," demands accuracy due to the presence of towering mature trees but the open back nine is characterized by pristine white sand dunes. Water hazards and bunkers come into play frequently throughout the entire Forest Dunes golf course. As if 18 challenging holes weren't enough, Weiskopf built a 19th hole that plays uphill and across water to a green that has a bunker right in the middle.

One of the most underrated courses in the country
Getting to Forest Dunes, in Roscommon, Mich., isn't easy but it's worth it. From the moment I finished my round, I've been looking forward to going back. Designer Tom Weiskopf says this might be his finest architectural effort, which is all you need to know about this perfect mix of visual appeal, challenge and conditioning. They recently added lodging and they'll be adding a second course, built by Tom Doak, so this budding Michigan destination is only getting better. It's not on Lake Michigan, like Arcadia Bluffs, but it's a better golf course. Find Forest Dunes and you won't regret it.
The best public gof course in the lower peninsula.
The course was aerated 2 weeks previous, but the greens were very fast and true. This truly is a bucket list course in Michigan.
Amazing Course
This course is in the middle of nowhere, then you pull into the grounds and see beautiful houses and an amazing course. The clubhouse is spectacular and the course doesn't disappoint. The only thing is its expansive. I can't justify paying $149 for a round of golf. Also a rum and coke on the course was 7$..
Amazing course
By far the best course I've ever played. Holes are extremely challenging so I had a high score but I didn't care cuz the course was beautiful. You gotta golf here at least once in your life!!
Beautiful course, play was very slow due to the foursome in front of us. But overall, excellent rating:)
Beautiful course, excellent condition. Would recommend this course to anyone who loves the game!!
Lives up to its number two ranking in Michigan.
Awesome golf course and so accomodating from the moment we pulled in. The greens must certainly be the best in Michigan. Exceeded our expectations. Pure golf. The real 19th hole was a nice way to end the day.
Top 5 course for me all time!!
Fantastic on all fronts! I just wish it was closer so I could play more often
Very beautiful course
Absolutely a great course. Extremely well maincured fairway's and greens. The bunkers make it very challenging and it is surrounded by beauty.
Excellent course, it's really a toss up on whose number 1 in Michigan among public courses, the worse for it is second.
Very slow play, won't finish if start at 3:00 pm. 1
Great course @ a great value
Perfect greens, nice layout. Bring your putting game, the course is tough but fair.
superb golf experience
Truly fantastic golf course. Well design and challenging. One that I would recommend highly.
Great course. Worth the trip.
Beautiful course, very challenging. Pristine conditions with great views all over. My only recommendation is buy the yardage book. Some blind tee shots and a few fairways that need 3 wood not driver. Great course, I will be going back.
Course was in great condition!
First time to this course. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this course to friends!
the BEST course in public course Michigan!!!
I played Forest Dunes 8 yrs ago, and couldn't wait to get back up there, now that I live in Charlotte, NC! those were the fastest and truest greens I have played on, the course was in PERFECT condition! Can't wait till the next time!
Deserves the highest ranking.
Private Club experience only less crowded! Worth the green fee and would pay more.
Well maintained course
The course was busy, and the pace was a bit slow for a twosome. However, the course was immaculate. Range balls were included in your round. And I enjoyed the "bye hole", a short par-3 that followed the 18th.
Beautiful destination course.
We played on a Thursday afternoon for $ 59.00. That's a great deal. Course was great and very fair if you played front the correct tees for you. We had four in the group. 3 played from the II tees and one played from the III. We'll be back in the fall.
Great course
This is one of the best golf courses in Michigan. It is a little expensive compared to others in the area and the state, but deals are available. I would to back here in a second.
One of the most beautiful courses we've played
We would highly recommend taking this trip. It was a hidden treasure!!!! . We would compare it to playing Pebble Beach.
Definitely bucket list golf.
We had heard great things from serious golfers about Forest Dunes. We weren't disappointed. Pro-style playing conditions. Generous landing areas. Confounding green complexes. Every bit a high-quality challenge in a beautiful setting. Everything it is cracked up to be!
