About
Located on the shorefront of Southampton Parish, the Port Royal Golf Course is one of the most frequented public golf courses in Bermuda and it is even known as being one of Jack Nicklaus' favorites. Robert Trent Jones designed this 18-hole course, which hosts the Bermuda Open Championship every year. Doglegs and wind are just some of the factors that will challenge golfers on this course. The signature hole is the scenic and rather infamous 16th, situated precariously atop craggy cliffs that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. The hole requires a nearly perfect shot in order to reach the green. Port Royal Golf Course has garnered such a following that some golfers reserve starting time a year in advance.

Fantastic round
Even busy getting ready for the PGA tournament the staff were friendly, course was beautiful, and the views are gorgeous. Some tough uphill holes in the wind. A must in Bermuda.
Great views and staff
Played over a hundred times. Staff from Pro down are excellent. Course views better than Pebble Beach. Steve the bartender best on the island. Probably could have better options on close in pro shop
Port Royal Always Fun But!
Played a couple weeks after a hurricane impacted Bermuda. Bunkers were in. bad shape
and not playable as some washed out. Tee boxes and fairways good but greens hadn’t come back yet. Glad we played on Golf Now rate not course or even hotel rate. Pro shop was well stocked for a change though few dollars have been invested in buildings and infrastructure.
We’ll have to see how in looks in two months when PGA tournament takes place.
Great golf course but not in great shape
First they had a hurricane which washed out some bunkers so none were playable, free drop. Very hilly course but restricted to cart path per PGA request because of tournament in November. We asked for two handicap flags they only had one, so we were insulted by roving staff when we tried to explain the situation. There were some apologies when we stopped for lunch as we were not first timers at the course which they knew. My wife and I played there many times over past 20 years. So my best recommendation is to wait to play after the tournament, it should be in better condition then. Many more pro divots though,
Course is excellent, staff very friendly and accommodating, would play it again and again.

Back 9 is Impressive, front just ok
Very nice course, unfortunately the greens were aerated at some point and very bumpy. Traveled long way to play with no warning of aeration. (Round was discounted 60%)I had 7am tee time and nothing is really accessible until after 7 am in regards to range, pro shop, etc. Tried calling day before numerous times to find out what would be open at 630 the day before but no answer. I understand that comes with the territory at some places when booking 1st time of day. If you are on Cruise ship and getting there by taxi, arrange a return trip with taxi before he drops you off. Staff said it can be difficult at times getting one back to ship. Could be an issue if playing the day your ship is leaving port.

Great course- BUT
Fairways and greens in great shape. The reason for the but is that the course could use some additional tees. Shortening the course for the higher handicap players. Especially on up hill 4 and 5s.

Beautiful Views
This course is very scenic, but the condition is not worth the $200 they’re charging in the morning. Course has been punched from tee to green probably 6-8 weeks ago and is still recovering. Course is very burnt and not in 5 star shape right now. I got paired up with another cruise ship couple and even they were surprised at the current conditions saying no way this is a PGA TOUR course right now.

Suggestion
I think Port Royal should have a starter to ensure everybody starts on time & at their correct Tee time.
Especially on weekends. I think what happens is 2 couples book on Golf now the same tee time but don’t play together. Our start time was at 3:30 and we did not tee off until 4pm and then while on the green of hole #1 a Port Royal employee told us to hurry up as people behind was getting upset. We were unable to go anywhere due to many people in front of us. When we reached hole #4 there was a group in front of us with 3 golf carts and they were teaching someone how to play golf. They were not playing at pace of play. We witnessed them doing 4 shots before reaching midway of the hole. They should have picked up their balls after reaching double the par.
It would be nice if we had started at our tee time at the correct time and if pace of play was kept at the right pace.

Wish we knew
It would have been nice to know that the greens had been aerated before we played. Putts were difficult as the ball got redirected on several putts. We may not have played this course.

Fun course especially back nine
Great course but unfortunately the greens are a mess. Winter kill made them extremely bumpy , slow with no true roll.
