Great track, but not ready for prime time yet
I have played this course a few times in the past. it is a long and tough course that never disappoints. As of 4/14/14, the course still needed some work after the brutal winter, but i am confident that the grounds crew will get it there. i payed $45 to play it, so thats crazy cheap for this course.
The carts are second to none. They have GPS and are electric. They also slow down when you are off the cart path on path only holes. The carts also alert you to where others are on the blind shot holes.
Good and challenging course
went by myself and got paired up. some challenging holes. otherwise average holes. maintained well.
challenging course.
2 holes were completely blind. Well maintaibed. Would play again. I am glad I paid $55 through golf now and not $115.
Picturesque, hilly and fun to play
Very good and well-maintained course. Beautiful views from many hilly perches. Course is a bit tricky from the tee, so repeated plays would be beneficial to understand how best to approach some of the holes. A terrific golfing experience overall.
This course had beautiful views
Hudson Hills is couse that if you have not played before, you will be losing balls. Many blind shots and lots of hills. The fairways are fairly open but if you are a long hitter you will spend time looking for your ball. You do not want to walk this course.
Greens are firm and very fast. They can be difficult to read. Fairways could use some divot repair.
All in all a nice course. I think it should cost less than the 85 for weekdays and 115 for w/e.
overpriced and overrated
This Westchester public course is billed as something special. I've been sucked in 3x now because its easy to get a tee time. But each time, I just wish I hadn't played at all. The course is not as well maintained as it could be for the price they charge, it's filled with blind shots and poor hazard design...and there's no practice range. I mean, c'mon.
Challenging
Carts are a must as you are up and down hills all day long. This is truly a course for the low handicapper. Tight layout. Invariably you are going to play with the ball either above or below your feet. Easy for the high handicapper to go through a bunch of balls. Lots of movement on the greens; read somewhere that the break is always towards the water tower, but didn't feel like that's always the case. The only Westchester public course where I've seen machines in the traps for maintenance. Another "unique" characteristic, tho they didn't have it this day, is that there are attendants after 18 who'll wipe down your clubs. Not sure what the expected tip rate is; maybe they've dropped the practice.
Very Hilly !!!
Great layout.......well designed gem............You need to play from the correct tee boxes or you will have a miserable day...........Black is for 0-6 who drive it 260 + ONLY....Green for 0-12 who drive 230-240.............
if you don't you'll be hitting out of fescue and rough and on the side of steep hills all day. From the correct tee boxes it's a truely enjoyable and challenging round !!!!
Very challenging course
Not for the novice- challenging hills and blind shots - lots of trouble - still holds some beautiful scenes of the Hudson Valley -
Well worth visiting -
Best public course in Westchester
Very nice course. Well maintained, tough, but fair. Greens are in great shape for a public course. Staff are courteous and friendly. Only negative is the $ which is more like a semi-private course - not a big issue when you're sticking it but a bit of a sting when you're playing like I was last week.
Good Bones, poorly maintained
The greens are in solid shape but the rest of the course is dry and poorly maintained.
The course is too tight with fairways within 20-30 yards of each other. Not uncommon to play from a different fairway.
Also, the front 9 is not a great experience.
Great views, Staff was to notch, one of the best public courses i have played
top three public golf courses I have played so far. The course is very challenging, tons of elevation changes, very narrow fairways on most holes and unforgiving rough. As challenging as the course is, it is also quite rewarding (had two birdies on the day that helped). You will lose balls on this course so bring plenty and follow your ball after contact, it is very easy to lose them in the rough. Greens were quite fast and not consistent hole to hole. Great views, especially 18. Will be back soon.
Challenging Fun Course
We had a great time playing this course for the first time. The GPS carts were helpful. The pace was a bit slow from time to time but that's to be expected on a public course late Sunday morning.
It's one of the top 3 courses we have played this year.
My golf buddy and I LOVE THIS COURSE! One of the premier golf experiences to enjoy, it is to be savored. This was one of the best golf outings of the year for both of us.
Extremely difficult course
Staff was very helpful - but the course is not worth the money. In addition, its extremely difficult. Very narrow fairways and its easy to lose your ball.
Challenging Course indeed..
I don't live far from this course but price wise is one of the most expensive in Westchester. I found a good deal on Golfnow and decided to give it a go. What an awesome course. Very challenging for the avg. golfer (like me), but worth it. Had a nice time and not a bad round since I played with this guy Mike who is a member there and knew the tricks of the course. I highly recommend this course to anyone who lives near and of course having played Long Island courses, I recommend it to those who live in the island to come up for a good challenge and enjoy the hills and elevation tee shots that are not often found on the island.
This course is expensive.
Pros: Great views, fast greens, very well maintained, good pace of play, friendly staff, decent layout, extremely fast carts with great GPS systems
Cons: FAST greens (oy!), very challenging, pretty expensive, no driving range, lots and lots of bugs in your face and all around, you will lose a ton of balls
Although I have the county golf card, I would only play this course with a GolfNow discount because nothing beats it after 4:00. $40 for weekend twilight golf with a cart at a nice course is a great deal in Westchester ($$$$$).
Hudson Hills was tough, but it is by far the best and most maintained county course. It is a long course that felt even longer because you have to play smart from the tees. No bombing it with driver except for a few holes. Lots of careful placement and difficult second shots, and once you're on the green, forget about it. These greens are fast and will make you feel like you're on tour. The course lacks true water hazards but does have a lot of swamp areas with ponds in them. The back nine is a little boring compared to the exciting and challenging front-- some holes look and feel very similar. If you can make it through a round here without losing 6 or 7 balls at the minimum, you can consider that a huge victory.
Hilly, tough green.
Fairway is hilly and narrow. Green is hard. Because it was my first time to play here, I managed this course poorly. Also, I had to make blind shots in some holes.
scenic course
Hudson Hills is a very scenic course. There are some beautiful views that outlook the Hudson. The course has various elevation changes. The course is a good design, some holes force the golfer to hit precise shots to avoid trouble and other holes are a bit more forgiving. Greens rolled fine. I would definitely recommend the course to others. One negative was that the course did not have a driving range.
Westchester golf
In an area with so many golfers and so few public golf courses Hudson is the best of the Westchester county golf courses.
It is the only county course with a real country club feel.
Greens are in good shape considering the amount of rounds played on them.
Hudson plays extremely hard in the wind so wait for a calm day and you won't be sorry.
