San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Great walking course
A great layout, quick greens, wonderful staff. Very good value.
Course OK, but staff unprofessional
I drive 40 miles to play here simply because the re-round rate was so good. Now they charge regular rate for a re-round, which is higher than the GolfNow rate. I was still willing to pay for it since it's such a long drive, but they turned off the lights and locked the door at least 2 hours early. I guess they wanted to get off early.
San Pedro golf course best value in AZ
Best course in AZ with nearby railroad, freeway, sewer pond, and dog pound
Great value, good fairways, good greens, very good layout. Finishing holes 9 & 18 very cool. Elevated tees with nice views of San Pedro River Valley.
Nice people with good food too.
Bunkers need work.
Improved Course Conditions
Course showed great improvement over last time I played it, which was about 5 months ago. At that time greens and fairways were hurting. This time tees, fairways and greens were in very good condition. Bunkers need work and some were under renovation. Overall the course has a great layout and will challenge your shot making.
San Padre
Great Course, played it a few times. Conditions were acceptable fairways were very green and mostly dry( not soggy from over watering) Greens were firm with few patchy spots, putts were mostly true to line. Overall course was in great, playable condition for this time of year. Finally drove my ball over the water hazard from the 18th tee. Would recommend this course to friends and other golfers.
Very nice public golf course!
San Pedro is a very nice golf course. The conditions at this course rival some of the best courses in the Tucson area. Tees, fairways and greens are all in great shape and the layout is challenging. The cart paths need work as they are unimproved and not paved but they seem to be working to make the course better each time I play there. The practice facilities could use updating also but are available. Definitely worth playing!!
More than you think
At first look, it looks pretty benign. But it turns out there were some unexpected teeth along the way. Narrow fairways, blind shots, elevation changes, strategicly placed hazards and doglegs. It was a very challenging shot makers layout and I thoroughly enjoyed it! A little wet, normal after overseeding, nice fast greens. I do wish there were regular bathrooms instead of porta potties.
Freshly overseeded and maintained.
We booked a round for the two of us on GolfNow for a good price. The course has recently undergone some maintenance so it was cart path only. The course was in good shape and the pace of play was good. We enjoyed our game and stopped for a late lunch in the restaurant afterwards. The food was good, but service was a little slow considering there were only 4 others in the restaurant who had ordered just before us.
The course has its challenges.
The water on the 9th and 18th can be challenging. The fairways were the best I've seen here in a number of years
Golf with Richard
Course has bee overseeded and is in very good overall condition. Bent grass greens are true and fast.
best greens
The course is a moderately priced course with typical issues, but the greens were the best we have played on in SE Az this summer. Bent grass that had been rolled well. The ball went where you putted it. I had 3 birdie putts drop, and that is a first for me.
The course has its challenges.
Tee boxes were not maintained and course has been in better condition.
Great layout, challenging par 4's
This is a fun course to play. The course is in excellent condition and the pace of play was very good. The 18th hole requires a carry over water and again for most approach shots. The on site restaurant is exceptional with a very friendly staff. The pro shop is staffed with very friendly and professional people.
San Pedro annual visit
Usually like to play the course 1-2 times a year when passing through Benson. The course has an interesting layout with the front nine (3-4 holes) running adjacent to the San Pedro river The course has numerous doglegs with a few holes on the back nine running through canyons. Having played the course for a number of years I don't expect great course conditions but am okay with this as part of the trip is just to get away. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are fine with the fairways lush while the greens have only a few burned out spots and will accept incoming shots. While I read the course is being improved, the process appears to be slow, with only a few sandtraps improved but most have no sand and poor drainage. The rough is terrible, weeds and the ball seems to sink, so you will loose a few balls if your not a good caddy. Due to time of year, humity was high and attracted flies. The cart paths are hardly existent and are basically just gravel paths. The carts are gas and ride a bit rough, due to age, course and cart path conditions. The staff was friendly and allowed access to the course prior to scheduled tee time. Found the cart girl to be pleasant and came around every 5-6 holes. Don't expect a $30-$40 (summer rates) course conditions you may find in Tucson but remember where you are and the quietness of the area.
