San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Decent public muni
This course had quite a few tight holes. The greens were quick and rolled well. The roughs were burned out in some areas or were still dormant. Sand traps had some pebbles but were very playable. Would play this course again.
Fast greens
A windy but sunny day on a good course that had fast greens, good fairways but rock hard tees. Had trouble getting the tees to go in but the ladies tees were almost impossible to get a tee in the ground. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable day with a variety of challenging holes. Will go back again if we can get a good deal again.
For the money
Worth the drive and for the Money you can't beat this course. Thanks for great greens.

For this time of year was in good shape, we'll play it again
Great golf course in southern Arizona
Played during winter vacation in Tuscon. Course was recommended by my cousin who plays the course regularly. Course's best features are the greens and the varied desert playing conditions. The scenery throughout the course is quite beautiful.
The front nine plays along the San Pedro River while the back plays through two canyons. The 15th hole is an elevated par 3 which overlooks a beautiful desert setting.
The staff here are great both in the pro shop as well as the kitchen.
My wife and I will be back next year.
Wow! Those greens are fast!
Yes. Those greens are fast! I don't get the chance to play greens that are that fast very often. Makes it very challenging. I think the design of the course is very good with good bunker placement. The fairways were not in very good condition but it was a nice day and fun to be out there. I'm glad to see they have brought this course back. Southern Arizona needs a good challenging course and this is it.
Nice change of pace course!
I hadn't played this course in approximately 8-10 years, so I went on Golfnow to read reviews. Most were very good, so I took a chance and made a tee time. I was very pleased. The course was not in pristine condition by any means but the greens were an awesome challenge. They were at least a 11 on the Stimp meter. They are very receptive to high shots but took some getting used to speed and read wise for putting. Approach shots that were low raced by the hole. They were much different than the Bermuda greens most of us are used to. They had slope that was deceptive on some greens and others were more straight forward. I found myself playing more break than necessary on most. Speed and line were more critical than I remember. The overall condition of the course left a bit to be desired but for the time of the year I think it was reasonable. Fairways were in OK shape but were a bit ragged in places and areas around many of the greens were thin. Included in the tee time was a free lunch and we all expected it to be a dog and chips but they had a good selection of burgers and chicken from which to choose, we were all amazed and pleased. I recommend the Patty Melt! The staff were very friendly and helpful! Overall myself and my playing partners were all pleased. We will be back!
ood value
we play his course every we come down, the pace of play is usually good, play the correct tees as there are a lot of forcd carries.
the colour of the geens look patchy BUT they are great and fast. love this course.
cheers.........michael
Fun Course
Although many of the low areas and in front of most greens the ground was wet, it was still a fun round. We started at 10am and didn't get any wind until the last couple of holes. The greens were fairly good shape for this time of year and putts were pretty true. I'll be back.
fastest greens ever !!!
The course is half an hour from Tucson and well worth the drive. Very reasonable rates and greens that were unbelievably fast ! Rest of the course just a little careworn around the edges but very enjoyable. Very friendly clubhouse too !
cool day of golf
The temp was around 45 degrees and a little bit breezy and it was still an enjoyable round of golf. The greens held the shots very well some of the fairways had a few bad spots but overall not to bad.
Best Greens, value in the area
Course is well maintained, staff is friendly. Course design is challenging.
Super Friendly Staff (Ken)
Staff was very friendly and accomodating (Ken). Course was in good condition and the greens were in great shape considering the time of year.
prdro2
This is the 2nd time I've played this course in the last 3 weeks. This week was really windy. It made for a real challenge.
Great value
Outstanding value (green fees, cart and lunch) at $30.00. Good practice area and potting green. The course conditions continue improve under city ownership.
This course was GREAT
We will be back! We live in Tucson Estates Tucson Az. in our park we have an 18 hole golf course and started playing golf for the first time when we moved here in April of 2012. Since my husband has made 3 Holes in One. We Love it!
San Pedro
Overall a good fun course and a deal for the price. Well maintained green. Oct / Nov time of year is the best for southern AZ golfing. Watch the water /pond front of the 18th green.
Just Average
I will try and be as fair as possible with my review, because the course conditions the day I played were temporary.... However, if the fairways and tee boxes have not been mowed since an over-seeding, the course should provide an alert or notice to golfers. (None was provided on GolfNow where I reserved our tee time.) I was expecting normal playing conditions, but that was definitely not the case. The length of the grass on the fairways made it difficult to find your ball, and even teed up high I had to power through grass to get my first shot out! The starter was not particularly friendly, so for those two reasons I can not provide a good review.
Overall the course has a nice layout, so I could see the potential in it (once the fairways and tee boxes had been cut). Food at the grill on site was good, just plan to spend at least an hour, as the service was very slow. Probably a good option if you live in the area, but not worth the trip from Tucson.
