San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Play at San Pedro
The weather was hot but the course was in great shape and the greens were super. A must do!
nice track
the course was in good shape, must stay on the fairways, not much difference between rough and fairway, beyond fairway NOT GOOD, sand was crusty would be only complaint..greens rolled well
A variety of hole layouts makes it challenging.
Fairways and greens in very good condition with greens running at a good pace. Tee boxes were a little rough and need attention. Watch out for the rough areas as some places are very "rough" and should be addressed by staff. Course layout is very good and poses a challenge at any level.
Very Enjoyable
I had a noon tee time but got out just after 1100. I played as a single and did not catch up to anyone, It was like having the course to myself.
The beverage cart came by three or four times. I was able to take my sweet time and enjoy a few drinks.
The course has some nice elevation change and a couple narrow fairways off the tee.
The third hole is a bit challenging. You need to be long and on line with the flag or slightly left. Short or slightly right will put you in the gully. The alternative is to go far right and pitch to the green over the gully.
The 18th is challenging as well. You can hope to hit it long over the water (250 +) and then another 100 + over another pond to the green, or you can hit it long along the right of the first pond and then 180 yards over the 2nd pond to the green. There can be a head wind which adds to the difficulty.
course is quite challenging when not in fairway.
Course is in great shape. Staff are very friendly and cart girl makes lots of rounds so you can keep hydrated. Excellent golf experience for the price.
Great and uncrowded course with great rates.
My golf buddy and I, both retired, love this course. On weekdays there a very few golfers and it allows us to take our time. Because of the scarcity of golfers we are not forced to pair up with other golfers and allows us to play as a twosome. The course is very well kept with plenty of waterstations and a beverage cart making the rounds. The rates are very inexpensive and it's worth driving from Tucson to Benson to go play. The front nine are fairly flat but the back nine are hilly which adds an added degree of difficulty. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We will continue to visit San Pedro during the summer especially with the lower temps in Benson compared to Tucson.
Great day
San Pedro has come along way from several years ago. The greens are great, the fairways good, and the challenge is there. Add wind and it can be really challenging. Holes present a good amount of diversity. The City of Benson has done a very good job with this course since they took it over. P.S. Don't miss the Benson Grille at the course. The food is great and very reasonably priced.
Great Value For The $
Fairways were a little patchy with some brown spots, but still very playable. Bunkers need a little attention, most were hard pan. Greens [ bent ]were excellent [ which is what this course is known for ]. Overall it is an excellent value for the money.
Surprise!
What a secret gm this course is! It was is great condition, with grass and manicured greens. The cart paths were a little rough, but overall well worth the trip! It would be helpful to have a map of the course on the card as some of the holes do have some tricky hazards!
nice course surounding not so good
Verry windy,try fairwais,fast greens
Restaurant only open till 4pm
Course is quite and a good get away from the city courses
Over the last year great improvement in tee boxes and fairways. Greens continue to be in great shape. Well worth the trip.
Awesome
Great course fast pace friendly staff great services
The course is one where you use all your clubs.
The greens are beautiful! The fairways are getting real lush. Had a great time!
san pedro is back
I've always enjoyed the track. The people taking care of the course should be complimented for their reconstruction!
nice greens
this course had nice greens that rolled fast and true but everything else was rough around the edges but all and all it was a fun course to play
Worth the drive
I had not played here for 5 years and overall I was pleased with the course. My biggest complaint is the tee boxes were very dry and hard, making it difficult to insert tees into the ground. Otherwise, I was pleased with the course condition.
Greens were a lot of fun!!!
Greens were in very good shape with a lot of speed but rolled true. Fairways and tee boxes were good . The course is in a high wind area and prone to a lot of dust. Cart paths were rocky and a little dusty. Was in much better condition then when we last played there. Fun course!!
Greens are the best
I am a very average bogey golfer and I like to play San Pedro for the thrill of putting on the excellent greens. Most of the holes are a little tight and surrounded by desert so a player needs to consider hitting a three wood instead of the driver. We played the whites, which is the middle choice off the tee box. I think that hole number 9 is the most difficult of the holes due to the slope of the fairway towards the water. If you tend to pull or slice the ball, you will not play well but the greens are still worth the travel to Benson.
San Pedro
Much improved from a year ago. The city of Benson has put much effort into upgrading overall. Greens are still very good. Good value for the price.
No sand in sand traps
Greens are fast and in good condition. Fairways are decent, but with some bald spots. However, there's no sand in the sand traps. If you go in a trap, it's like hitting off of concrete. Rough is either dormant or non existant.
