San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

This course has character.
Good course with very good greens. Interesting tees with a variety of shots required over the full course. I would like to see much of the long dead grass removed from the roughs as it results in a lot of lost balls from narrowly missed fairways. Fairways and greens are in good condition even though it takes a very high shot to hold on the hard greens. I like the speed of the greens(fast) and they putt true. I enjoyed all three rounds I played. Hated the traps, they are dirt traps not sand traps.
good sunday round
It was a very enjoyable experience. the wind affected some shots, specially the forced carry over the lake at 18th.
The 16th hole offers a unique challenge to get the ball on the green with a crosswind condition.
The sand traps were in reasonable shape.
Good visual layout
Overall course was in good shape with fairways and greens maintained. Course seemed to be over watered as fairways were soggy and even rough showed excessive wetness. Greens were running fast and maybe too fast for the recreational and/or "snow bird" type players frequenting the course. Play was very slow and we waited on every hole to hit shots. Also sand and grass bunkers need some attention to improve play. Cart paths need improvement as very dusty.
Great Potenial
Great greens. Fairways were thick with grass. Rough and tees require manicuring and more development to get afive star rating. Cudos to superintendent, doing a great job with greens and fairways.
Blustery Day
Very windy day. Constant freeway buzz on every hole. Fairways somewhat patchy. Greens have seen better days. Could use more and more visible fairway yardage markers.
Great greens, fair to good over seeding, a challenge
Fast greens that roll true, the fairways have been over seeded and are in good condition, the course layout is one of my favorites and it provides a challenge without breaking your budget. Great piece of property for a golf course. Black tees: 7313 yards. White tees: 6298 yards
Good course to take visitors.
Hole 18 is a real tester. Bent grass greens are very good. Fairways are good. There are some challenging holes. Good course for seniors. Staff is very efficient and responsive to their guests. The more you play San Pedro the more you enjoy the course.
Benson
Course has improved dramatically...letting greens go dormant helped with speed. Fairways are brown but ground still soft. They need to take care of some of the areas around holes but overall highly recommend the course.
Course is in best shape I've seen it.
We play at San Pedro three or four times a year. Staff is friendly and course is in good shape. Greens are best in years and fairways look good also. Great Value!
Course is laid out very well
Course in really good shape, fairways best shape I have seen in awhile, some of the greens have some spotty areas that need attention, still in great condition.
Great Greens
The greens on this course were excellent. Putts ran smooth and the greens were true... find the line and putts ran true. The pace of the greens were consistent on every hole.
Well worth the ride from Tucson and will definetly play it often.
Save your Money...
they said they just over seeded two weeks earlier. Really? Hard to find real grass in the fairways and the fairways are narrow. The 30 MPH winds didn't help but I was disappointed with the shape of the course…especially if they did overseed 2 weeks earlier. Greens were running around 11…which was nice. Wouldn't go back.
Not as advertised
This course benefits from several tee possibilities. The most glaring negative of the golfing experience was that the carts no longer have GPS (I had left mine home since the course continues to advertise its GPS carts)!
Course is well laid out and challenging.
The course has made improvements to the tee boxes, fairways and greens and it shows. Greens were somewhat inconsistent in speed, but overall good. Only negative is cart paths and side travel areas as they are mostly dirt with some gravel covering. Very dusty and after a round your bag will show it. Otherwise a fun course to play and enjoy.
loving the course these days
Have really enjoyed golfing at san pedro this last year. the improvements have made it worth the 30 mile drive from vail. the new carts are awesome, but I miss the gps. dining experience perfect as always.
Fun course with plenty of challenges for all levels of golfers
Hidden gem of a course. Looking forward to playing it again.
Good day of golf; good course.
The course is finishing up over seeding and it is cart path only. The fairways are a bit wet, because of the over seeding, but easy to play from. Good value.
Very nice series of holes.
This course has a very nice flow with some challenging holes!
Play it
Benson is doing a great job since taking over. The greens by far the best of any course in southern AZ (even the resort courses), Course is in great shape, worth the drive, only complaint would be a bit on the pricey side for range balls.
Challenging, maintained, needs maintenance in some areas.
This is a municipal course now, it gets a lot of play from people living 50 or more miles away. Most comments are met with good response and actions are taken to address complaints, such as a bridge that represents an liability.
