San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

great greens, nice layout, and nice desert vistas. fun course to play.
The course is challenging as you want to make it based on your choice of tee. We are seniors and played from the middle tee boxes and it seemed a fair test.. The greens are fantastic and I think the highlight of the course.Tricky, fast ,beautifully manicured bent grass greens that hold your shots and are a joy to putt. I have played this course four times while attending events in the area and love it.
Greens were like 11 stimp meter.
What perfect greens, fairways were pretty good too!
Great course right off the highway.
The day was a bit blustery, but the course was, as always, in great shape. Fairways are green and the greens are in great shape. Hole 18 is a real challenge, especially in the wind. The course is well worth the drive from Tucson or surrounding areas. Friendly staff, Nelda is a big help.
Great Green, Fun Course
Outside of the dirt patches in the rough the course was in pretty good condition. Around the greens were great which is required. Value for the dollar was excellent, made the drive from Tucson, would do it again!
Great price for a great course.
As long as you get the $25 hot deal you'll have a hot deal. The course has received a lot of attention since the City of Benson took over. The desert areas have been cleaned up significantly, the greens are in great shape and the cart paths have been fixed. The fairways need some attention but are very playable. The bunkers are in bad shape but they are no worse than most of the bunkers around southern AZ. There is no sand and it is hard pan.
Course was in great shape and challenging as always.
Enjoyed a great day of golf, pace of play was never an issue.
I am suprised there are not more people playing this course.
Greens were good.
They had a shotgun start earlier that 9:50 tee times were unaware of, which caused us a 40 minute delay before we got to tee off. Lots of older couples play this course that causes VERY LONG ROUNDS.
Greens were great, fairways could use some water. For the price, worthwhile to play if they can speed up play, otherwise bring your lunch because you will be out there a long time.
5 hour round was painful for course without significant difficulty. Condition average to poor.
Interesting layout, however 5 hour round was painful for course without significant difficulty. Good tees and excellent greens however fairways are sparse and irigated fairway area has been narrowed with water rationing. Cannot reccommend this road trip to Bensen based on pace of play and fairways.
T-time in the late morning and staff were very friendly. We were able to tee off early. Carts with GPS were easy to use and helpful.
My wife and I like to try new courses as we travel. I read about
San Pedro and also talked to some locals who also said this was a good course. We enjoyed the challenge of several the holes that required good shot placement. Greens were excellent and challenging. I would golf this course again.
This course requires good shot making
Course is in good shape. Greens are very good. A good value.
Beautiful course
Tough course but very beautiful. For sure a target course.
Nice layout on a fun course
SP is not a top end course, but it is a fun and decent course. The tee boxes need some work, the greens are in great shape and the fairways are finally being overseeded in the winter. GPS carts add a bit more of value for not a lot of money. The restaurant is pretty good too.
Needs Water
The course layout and routing are great. The greens and tees were good. The fairways are okay but if they could water more I would rate the course as a must play. The bunkers need work the sand needs to be fluffed up and rocks picked out
challanging course
1st time golfing in Az and found the staff and course a pleasant experince
fun course, hard to find ball if shot out of bounds
it was a fun course but we only went since it was a prepaid time and didnt want to lose our money. the weather was very cold and it made it a little hard to enjoy. i would love to try it again under better weather conditions.
Nice greens. Balance in need of attention.
No ranger. Course played extremely slow. Fairways over seeded. Thin in places. Course needs some serious attention to be enjoyable to play.
Fairways narrow in places. Sand traps in poor condition.
A little far from Tucson, but worth the trip
We were a threesome and when we arrived we were greeted by the folks in the club house and told we could start anytime we wanted. We played in under three hours. There was hardly anyone on the course. the greens were pristine, but the fairways needed a little work, as did the sand traps. I would definitely play there again, expecially at the low price we paid.
Greens With Some Nice Curves!
Fun course to play! Challenging in some respects and yet forgiving in others. Nice scenery. The greens are awesome! If you like to play greens with some serious twists and turns, these are the ones to get some practice on. Nice folks in the pro shop and good rates. Give it a try!
