San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Great shape!
The course is in great condition as we head for overseeding.
Greens are speedy, fairways are nice. Some easy holes, some scenic holes, great lunch at The Grille. You won't be disappointed at SanPedro.
A Sniper's course...
San Pedro is about 45-65 minutes from Tucson, depending how far from the east side of town you are. If you're in Marana, pack a lunch because you're in for a drive. And speaking of drives, this course places a very high premium on accuracy from the tee. The fairways are not very wide on many of the holes and border on the "is this the U.S. Open?" side of things on a few holes (not many trees is a plus). Really tight driving and if you miss you're in "rough" -- mainly clover weeds and such, not real "rough". The greens do make up for these issues though. Even poorly struck approach shots were stopping quickly on the greens. They are all bent grass and were not perfect, having only a very few small patches of weeds on them (nit picking here but being honest). They roll very smoothly but the break is hard to read. Also, being a "country course" most folks don't know/care enough to fix their pitch marks on the greens. Pace of play also suffers due to the higher overall index of the patrons. For what we paid we would gladly drive out there again. It's not perfect but it's a good deal at this time of year, if you don't mind the travel time.
The course was in great shape
Love playing on this course fairways and greens in great shape all the people where friendly.
Great course.
Being intermediate players, the "Executive" course knocks off a couple of strokes and keeps you from blocking better players behind you. Great idea!. D.N.
For the thirty minute drive from Tucson, it's a best-kept secret!
Benson is about 30 minutes from Tucson and taking the Ocotillo Exit off I-10 to San Pedro Golf Club is easy. The course is city owned and maintained - and that maintenance shows and plays!! Great condition, super greens, moderate difficulty and excellent club house (restaurant and pro shop). Go Play!
Best kept secret in So. AZ
Best greens in southern Arizona, PERIOD. Great layout
Good value for the money
San Pedro is in excellent shape; however they had just experienced a heavy rain the night before and the course had a some standing water. We decided to play lift clean and replace.
Greens were fast and in very good shape
Overall, the course was maintained and in decent shape. Fairways were a bit weedy and could use a spray. Greens were quite good and fast. Cart lady and wagon...very interesting, was very nice and efficient. Tell her to keep up the singing.
solid for $25 nothingbspecial
Has a few fun holes but not kept up very well. I will play it again as there are very few choices in the area. It is worth $20-$25.
Great Value,
San Pedro is a diamond in the desert. The greens had some character and were in great shape. The Tee boxes and Fairways need some attention as they had more weeds than grass. There had been several storms in the area so this may be why the tees and fairways hadn't been mowed in a couple days.
Great in places, rough around the edges
Terrific large, consistent greens. Fairways generally good, tees and rough in marginal condition. Pace of play unnecessarily slow. With some TLC this is a great value...not enough water stations.
Pay closer attention
Really terrific bent grass greens, big, undulating surfaces. Tees and rough in need of attention, fairways ok. Waaaay to slow for a not full course. Management needs to pay closer attention.
Bentgrass on the Greens
The only positive about this course is the greens. They are bentgrass and very true. The carts are dirty and very old, the cart paths are unpaved, the rough is basically weeds and the fairways could use some attention.
You can make this course as long as you want.
This course has come a long way. It was almost destroyed by IRI Golf Group and has risen from the dead. I would put the greens up against any in the Tucson area. They are excellent. The fairways are coming along well but the tees still need a little work. Very few of the holes are alike. There is a good variety of elevation change throughout the course and there are 5 sets of tees so you can make it as long as you would like. Everytime we go there we enjoy it and it keeps getting better. It has a great finishing hole and a great restuarant to go to after the round. A great value at the regular price but super a reduced rate.
Beautiful greens.
Friendly staff. The course needs some help on the fairways and tee boxes.
OVER WATER IN SOME SPOTS
GOLF CART BROKE DOWN HAD TO WALK TWO HOLES,PUTING GREN IN GREAT SHAP GRASS WAS TO WET IN SOME SPOTS LOT OF MUD OTHER THAN THAT GREAT TIME,
Good value. Challenging course with friendly staff.
San Pedro is a tough but fair course. It is in overall good condition though some of the teeing areas need attention (We played copper tees- some have almost bare and brown areas). Greens are very good. Friendly and efficient shop and restaurant personnel . Well worth the green fees we paid. Wish there was a way to get the general golfing public to take better care of the course (e.g. fix ball marks on greens). Watch the overwatering of some areas. See you again soon.
Can be a long course if you play from the back tees.
The overall course condition was decent. There were fairway areas and tee boxes that were lush, some were dried out (hardpan), and others were dirt with no grass. But most of the areas were either lush or slightly dry. Greens were in good shape and they had a little speed, but not much. Overall it was a fun course to play for the first time. I would go back and play again even around this time in the summer and the heat.
Great Value.
I had two concerns even though I could not beat the price. The course need water. It's hot here now and they need to water the course. The fairways are drying out and starting to get thin. Also, there was never a beverage cart going around the course. That was a bit disconcerting.
Love these greens!
The course is continually improving. The fairway has far more turf than I remember from past years, the traps are being improved and the greens allow for beautiful ball roll. It's always a pleasure to play this course. And it's only a short trip away from Tucson.
