San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

challanging course
1st time golfing in Az and found the staff and course a pleasant experince
fun course, hard to find ball if shot out of bounds
it was a fun course but we only went since it was a prepaid time and didnt want to lose our money. the weather was very cold and it made it a little hard to enjoy. i would love to try it again under better weather conditions.
Nice greens. Balance in need of attention.
No ranger. Course played extremely slow. Fairways over seeded. Thin in places. Course needs some serious attention to be enjoyable to play.
Fairways narrow in places. Sand traps in poor condition.
A little far from Tucson, but worth the trip
We were a threesome and when we arrived we were greeted by the folks in the club house and told we could start anytime we wanted. We played in under three hours. There was hardly anyone on the course. the greens were pristine, but the fairways needed a little work, as did the sand traps. I would definitely play there again, expecially at the low price we paid.
Greens With Some Nice Curves!
Fun course to play! Challenging in some respects and yet forgiving in others. Nice scenery. The greens are awesome! If you like to play greens with some serious twists and turns, these are the ones to get some practice on. Nice folks in the pro shop and good rates. Give it a try!
Good condition considering the morning frost alerts
Overall was good condition with morning frost alerts; should have another 30 minute delay to let the greens thaw out some more.
The condition of the course is much improved providing a great day of golf.
It had been years since I had played San Pedro. I was pleasantly surprised to find the course in the best condition I have ever seen it. Over seeding of the fairways, improvements in the cart paths and defining boundaries have greatly improved play. May I suggest an upgrading the carts . . . . .they are getting a bit old. Also, include windshields in the upgrade. Keep the GPS system; it certainly assists play.
very nice course with 5 different tee boxs for all skills!
Lots of tuff fairways to hit with underlined greens to a few holes straight and easy to keep your confidence up with a great club house with great rates on apparel an necessity good food and drink!!!
Fun Course
It has its challenges. We had a good time. Staff very friendly. Got on early. Don't miss #18. We will play again and bring others with us. A bonus: reasonable and affordable green fees.
Great shape!
I have never seen San Pedro look so good! The greens are fantastic, and the fairways are GREEN!
Some of the best greens around
Love the bentgrass greens on this course. Cart paths are not paved which I like as it prevents the far too common cart-path bounce experienced on other courses. The other aspect that was superior to many southern Arizona courses was that the bunkers were relatively playable with actual sand rather than muddy silt in them. Liked it. Only problem is it's too far from Tucson for us to play regularly.
Every hole has it's own challenge which is nice.
The course is is very good shape since I last played it, 3 years ago. The only difficulty was to read the display screen inside the cart (a bit too dark). pace of play was good for as crowded as it was for a Monday. Overall will tell others that the course is well worth playing.
Pace of play was horrible!
I was not notified of an early morning tournament taking place. I got there early at least an hour before tee time to warm up. When asked when my group was going to start, the staff seemed flustered and unsure, because they were unsure of how many groups were left in the tournament. I ended up starting an hour after tee time and had spent 7 hours on the course by the time I was done. Tournament play and regular play coordination was extremely poor and not organized. I live an hour away so it is unlikely I will return to play at this course. The one bright spot was that the course was in decent shape.
Course layout is challenging and fun.
The course has made great strides to improve conditions both on fairways and greens. Greens are average speed, but have subtle breaks. Fairways are in very good condition albeit very wet in places. San Pedro is well worth playing for all skill levels.
Great for beginners as well as experienced golfers.
We really enjoy this course. It is well looked after, the carts are in good shape and have GPS, we have never felt crowded, therre are water stations at some Tee boxes, the staff are great and it's easy to book a good tee time at a good rate on golfnow.com We will be back to Benson if only to play San Pedro!!
San Pedro Bound
Enjoyed the round at San Pedro, very interesting course, a real mix of holes / reseeding is complete and looks great / some holes could use a little more info as to how they are laid out, not playing there all the time, we were a little lost on how the hole was played. Will certainly play there again !! :-))
Excellent course. Fairways and greens in superb condition.
The course is in great condition and the staff were all courteous and efficient. I have nothing negative to say about it.
A great place for a relaxing but challenging round.
I was on vacation from Michigan and decided this course was close to where I was staying. I'm glad I did play. The fairways were overseeded but in beautiful shape. The greens were long so putts were slooow. Just something I had to adjust to. Overall I was pleased with the round and would play this course a lot. Too bad its so far away from me.
The course is in great shape after overseeding
This course has really come back after changing changing hands. Jay has done a great job with the golf and the resturant. It is so enjoyable and Nelda and the staff are "down home friendly"! Would and do recommend to everyone.
The course is well maintained by the city. Great discount!
I was hesitate to golf there because it is 30-40 minutes away from East Tucson in the middle of nowhere. I'm glad I went. The course has variety of holes, some are link styles and some are desert. Overall the course is long and well maintained, and the greens are in a great shape! I will go back again, especially for $20 or less.
