Colts Neck Golf Club
About
Colts Neck Golf Club is one of central New Jersey's most popular courses. The diverse course offers everything from Scottish-style bunkers to sparkling lakes. Tall golden fescue rough borders the fairways and the greens are large and undulating. The course is seemingly short at only 6,236 yards but it shouldn't be taken lightly. It's much more challenging than it appears. The layout finishes with two of its toughest holes. The 17th has a tough green fiercely guarded by out-of-bounds and the course saved the most difficult hole for last. This par 3 will test even the most seasoned golfers. In addition to the golf course, Colts Neck also has a 25-station driving range that stays open late. It's a great spot for getting in some practice after work.

Don't do it unless you're a member
45 with a cart on golf now. Then charged an extra $20 when we get there. That's strike one. Course condition was eh at best. Not worth $65. Then told I couldn't bring water or Gatorade on the course. I understand alcohol but that is completely ridiculous.....fine they must have multiple carts going around? No they had one. We saw it twice in 5 hours, couldn't care less if I had my own cold water in a cooler but obviously I didn't. That's strike 2. But to top it off non members are not allowed to purchase alcohol that's strike 3. Do not advertise on golf now, if you are going to then overcharge what someone booked and not allow them the same treatment as member. Be wary.
A decent course that's worth playing.
I had played here years ago, but had not played recently. The course was in generally good condition and although it is not very long, it is tight and requires good control of drives and irons. The greens were very fast, and it was hard to hold an approach on the green without a lot of spin. The bunkers were in good condition. Overall, a worthwhile experience. It's about 10 minutes off the parkway, and relatively easy to get to. A few peculiar issues, they don't sell beer to anyone who isn't a member. Otherwise enjoyable if you can get a decent deal for the course.
Good could be Better
There were numerous tee boxes all chewed up and there seems to be no available grass/dirt containers to fill in divots.
Some of the greens seem to be like the moon with numerous craters that none of the players seem to fix.
With the greens in that condition the place is not worth the price you pay.
The staff was nice and friendly
Enjoyable course
High handicapper (90s) - this is a really enjoyable course from the white tees; challenging but can get pars. Many greens seem to have suffered from the drought, but still roll well. Otherwise in very good shape. Nice amenities including on-course bathrooms with running water and drinking water/cart service. Only beef is relatively crowded on past two Saturday afternoons, although still got in 4:15 rounds.
Course is usually in Pristine shape
I’m not a member, however, I do play this course a fair amount during the season.. that’s why I was pretty shocked to see the course in such bad shape.. From to tee-box to green it was not up to the typical standards of Colt Neck Golf Club. For $100 I expect a little more that what was provided.
What's Covid?
This is the only course I've played where Covid-19 didn't seem to exist?
Rakes in bunkers, water jugs being refilled (which I can't complain about), ball washers, and full depth cups.
Layout is a bit odd, with 4 par 3's on the back. 2 of which are 230 from the tips.
There was also a par 4 that had two trees overhanging the green, which even made a perfect placed tee shot almost impossible to hit the green. And a couple of holes on the back have giant power lines running through them. Easily the most forgettable back 9, and 2-3 holes go directly into the setting sun, so good luck with a mid afternoon tee time.
Finally, it was day 1 of 2 of the club championship, so the greenskeeper put the pins in every impossible location possible which made the round even less enjoyable, but that's random. Greens were running quite fast, which would have been good with some fair pins, but this round had just about every pin tucked into a corner or paces from a slope.
Fairways were a bit run down and muddy.
18th finishes on a par 3 over water, with no drop zone, and no margin for error. Left the round with a really poor taste in my mouth, would not come back.
GREENS WERE ROLLING TRUE
The best greens i putted on all year. rolling true and fair. kudos to the greens keeper. the course was in very good condition overall. only play here a couple of times of year but always have an enjoyable experience.
