Colts Neck Golf Club
About
Colts Neck Golf Club is one of central New Jersey's most popular courses. The diverse course offers everything from Scottish-style bunkers to sparkling lakes. Tall golden fescue rough borders the fairways and the greens are large and undulating. The course is seemingly short at only 6,236 yards but it shouldn't be taken lightly. It's much more challenging than it appears. The layout finishes with two of its toughest holes. The 17th has a tough green fiercely guarded by out-of-bounds and the course saved the most difficult hole for last. This par 3 will test even the most seasoned golfers. In addition to the golf course, Colts Neck also has a 25-station driving range that stays open late. It's a great spot for getting in some practice after work.

13th hole tops off a horrible course layout
This course has very little signage to direct you to the next hole, which quite often not close to each other. In general, it’s a really bad layout. To top it all off, the 13th hole is basically a mini-golf hole with obstacles blocking the green - yes, a gigantic tree completely blocking the green when you hit a perfect drive in the middle of the fairway. 25 years of golf and have never seen anything like this joke of a hole. The only decent thing about this course is the friendly staff and the relatively good speed on the greens.
Great course
The starter really does his job well. They were running ahead of schedule (rarity for nj golf recently) so he put us out a bit earlier than scheduled and then had the group behind us tee off on time. We didn’t see the group in front of us or behind us all round, which does wonders for how much you enjoy your round. This is at least the 3rd or 4th time I’ve played here where this particular starter (older gentleman) managed the groups well on hole 1 which led to a great day. Rangers are around to remind you to keep it moving if they stray from pace. I greatly Appreciate the pride they take here in course conditions and pace of play, because so many other courses are playing on temporary tee boxes (for full price obv) with horrible conditions up and down the course and pushing groups on top of each other. This is one of the top public courses you can play in Monmouth county.
First Time at CNGC
Course was in good shape, greens had been recently aerated, but were still puttable. Interesting layout, and a good course to walk. Cart girl was around regularly for refreshments. I played there again the next week, got a last minute tee time on a perfect day. Starter nice, rangers were out, joined a threesome and had a good time.
Great course in Monmouth County
I really enjoy playing here. Very nice course and it’s very relaxing. Would recommend everyone to try it..
Lots of potential
Very nice layout and scenery around the course. Just seems to have been beaten up by the summer play. Pace was slow, but not the courses fault. Would like to see the tee boxes cleaned up and weeds removed from fairways on some holes. Overall, worth going back to play again.
I was surprise too see that the putting green was in a very bad condition for some holes.
Interesting Layout
Enjoyed the layout @ Colts Neck very much. Had a few par 3 holes over water & nice combination of varied distance par 4 & 5 holes. The sand traps were in good condition around the greens. Unfortunately, the greens had been recently air aided so it was difficult to putt. I got a great rate on golf now which made it worth the trip.
Great track
It was a beautiful day so course was busy and a little slow but that didn’t take away from the awesome time we had.
Bad Condition
Played this course many times in past years. It was always in great shape. They have let this course go and way over priced. I’d reccomend plenty of others before this course.
Nice track... ***And One big thing to know before going**
They have a nice little track over here... The only thing is that it could definitely be better.. Especially for what you pay on a weekend (/holiday).. Some of the greens looked a little burnt out but they were still pretty fast.. And some of the fairways were very wet even when there was no obvious reason for that to be the case... This caused you to have to really try to pick the ball clean or you'd take a big piece of sod with your iron shots (especially approach shots)..
***One BIG thing to note (and maybe they said it somewhere and I didn't pay attention to it) is that NON-MEMBERS CANNOT BUY ALCOHOL ON THE COURSE!***
Good course but not best value
Course is ok. Tee boxes were chewed up, greens were in pretty good shape but a little patchy. Course was pretty backup for a few parties ahead so took a while. Staff is nice but hard to justify the price for the what you get. Also bar cart will only serve alcohol to members
Review Martha Edelman
I very much enjoyed playing the course. It had a good mix of challenging longer holes from the Ladies' tees and also some short par 3 & 4's. The course was in great shape, including the greens. They were fast but rolled true. Would play this course again in a heartbeat.
