Played here with my son haven’t been here in 25 years course was ok not great wasn’t a fan of the 3 consecutive par threes on the back nine before the closing par 5 18th fun layout I would play it again
Good course.
Overall I recommend this course. Unfortunately the price went up 10 bucks, Fun day though!⛳
Mixed Bag
A nice course with some good points and some bad.
Pros:
-Price: Paid $41 for 18 holes, which for this area is a good value. Also got 2 gloves for $15 each which I thought was a good price.
-Simple: Many straight holes and Par 3s
-Course was in pretty good shape
Cons:
-Pace of play: Would give this 0 stars if I could. Arrived at 1 for a 1:15 tee time. Left at 7:15. Douglaston is a full-day experience. Always very crowded. No point in driving a cart.
-Hills: Way too many blind shots due to hills where you can't see the green. Easy to lose balls, though also easy to find other people's balls. Even when I hit a shot down the left side of the fairway, I temporarily lost it because it was somehow in the rough off the right side of the fairway.
-Hard to know which direction the next hole is sometimes
Sand Greens
Douglaston is a home course as I grew up in Queens and I have played it countless times but today was an absolute disgrace. The greens were straight sand. In addition to feeling like I was in the bunkers while putting on the greens, they must have been aerated this week (which wouldn’t bother me as a sole issue- part of playing public courses) BUT I couldn’t even enjoy the round cause of the sand!! Simply put- notify golfers or provide some sort of discount to play in conditions like this. Tee boxes were also an absolute disaster.
*** with that being said, it is a decent course within the 5 boroughs and a tricky one at that. Tight fairways and you’ll find it challenging if you aren’t very precise off the tee as you may find your ball gone or on a nasty lie. JUST FIX THE GREENS OR CHARGE ACCORDINGLY!!! ****
Waiting
All greens were excellent condition. Some area of fairway was dirty ground and dried grass. I guessed after heavy rain falling a weeks before without draining. So many slow players made to move very slow. It was enjoyable moment of cool weather and partners I played with.
