Tee time playing order
Arrived twenty minutes early.Course had cancelations but let a foursome cut ahead of our tee time. By the time we made the turn there were already backed up with four foursomes and a couple in front of us , quit our round five holes short and left
Fall golf
Challenging round, but much fun. Great price for this course.
Great course with fantastic greens
This is a beautiful challenging layout with excellent greens and a very friendly staff.
Excellent condition and great value
I’ve played Quail Ridge numerous times and it never disappoints. It is one of the nicer courses in West Michigan. You can tell they’ve invested time and money into groundskeeping because the course is in great shape. The day after I played Quail Ridge, I played one of the private country clubs in town and QR’s greens were in better shape than the private course. All for $50. I’ll definitely go back the next time I’m in Grand Rapids.
Picture Perfect, Unsupervised Course Management (slow....)
Absolutely beautiful course with rolling hills, nicely maintained fairways and greens. Every hole is unique and rarely shares its borders with other holes as you make your loop. The clubhouse staff were friendly but severely understaffed. At the turn, the restaurant/bar was backed up and only one server was working. It made for a slow process to grab even a simple order of hot dogs and beverages to go.
We also had the course ranger or manager allow an unscheduled 4some ahead of us. This would be no problem but the course was already oversold with 8 minute tee time separation and slower players leading the way. No effort from the Ranger to expedite play as we literally didn't see any supervision on the course from there on. It was extremely slow play all day long.
We had played this course on the preceding Thursday following a tournament that morning. It was consistent with that experience. Very slow, minimal proactive course management and plan to wait on every shot as you make your way around.
It was exceptionally beautiful and challenging. Find a day with fewer golfers if you really want to maintain any rhythm.
Sloooooooow play
Played this course on a Wednesday morning at 0900. Pace of play was painfully slow. Course was full of people that are not good at golf and this course is way to challenging for them. Probably wont’t go back. Price is way too high to play 9 holes in 2:30.
Looking Good Quail Ridge
Love this place to beef up your fairways hit and greens in reg stats as the fairways and greens are pretty large. The 1st fairway is as big as the parking lot in the landing zone. Monster fairway. I like the amount of target golf holes vs. hit drive and go find it holes here on the front nine. I can't remember playing the back and what those are like but a good mix on the front for sure.
Tall grass is growing like crazy in this area and no exception here so some wayward tee sheets will be tough to find but I noticed they cut it down in 2 areas where it was going thru a split fairway or too close to rough to make things more playable. I commend the staff for that. I think par 5 3rd was one good example where if it wasn't cut it'd be a blind shot into the green.
I know the course is getting 250-300 plus players each day due to covid surge in rounds and it doesn't look like it condition wise. They have the divot bottles on the carts and on the par 3 tee boxes so while we waited for our gaggle of twosomes and singles to play the hole we'd empty those bottles. I didn't see too many divots in the rough/fairways from previous days so they are taking care of things in the heavy traffic for sure.
