Early morning round
I teed off at 7:30. Other than having to deal with five or six yet unswept greens, I had a fantastic time. As usual, the vistas were beautiful, and the course was in great shape.
Liked the Course
The upkeep of the course is not the best, but for a public course in the middle of no where I was impressed with the openness of the course and moderate difficulty. Great for a beginner but there were several water holes leading up to the greens on several holes. Other than that I would return in a heartbeat!
Morning at peace
I always love playing around early in the morning at Glengarry. it’s beautiful, the course is in great shape, particularly the greens, and the pace of play is fantastic. I generally finish in less than 2 1/2 hours without rushing.
Good option for locals, nice staff.
This is a very popular course with the locals. It provides a good option for higher handicap players, and I saw a large variety of golfers. Men women and elderly. You don’t pay much to have a round with friends.
The staff was all very friendly and helpful. They seem to really care about the customers. There’s a friendly welcoming atmosphere for all. The pro shop was small but functional, and bar was in the barn and basic but again, had lots of tables for crowds and friends. The parking area is not asphalt.
I wouldn’t call it a links course by definition, but it is open, few trees, and I suppose wind could be prevalent at times. Water on a few holes, and the blind shots are minimal and not punitive. Sand traps were few and I wasn’t in any and don’t recall seeing anything notably great or poorly maintained.
The boxes were okay, nothing notably good or bad. Fairways were hard and dry, as we’ve had no rain for some time and I don’t think they have sprinklers for them. But most lies were playable without having to worry about poor conditions. The rough was short, (mowed weeds) to speed play for the higher handicap players, which were more prevalent than average.
The greens were pretty good and held a good shot but released on plays from rough. I played on a hot afternoon and they rolled well and faster than average but appeared to be slower, messing with your head. Three putts were not uncommon, my bad.
Hole layout was good. I thought the variety pretty good. Kept me engaged.
So this is a recommendation but I give an honest review so you know you’re getting a course that’s great for time out with friends, but if you are lower handicap player (I’m about a 8 now) and want a course to fit your game skills this might disappoint. Nothing against the course or management, every course has a target clientele. If you see this on a Gold Advisor top course list it’s because the players who play it LOVE this course. But I played others during my visit to the area which were better quality but you pay for it as well. We need courses that’s welcome the recreational players with higher handicaps, and this course excels at that.
Course was in good shape. Some fairways are not in the best of shape. Greens are really nice.
Pace of play was extremely slow. Took almost 2 1/2 hours to play the back 9.
Would recommend playing the course if you haven't.
Great Course
It says links and it does have that links feel. Some wide open fairways so you can miss and not be penalized off the tee too severely. Several club up or club down elevation changes make club selection difficult. Greens rolled wonderfully for playing mid afternoon. Some waiting but not awful for a Saturday afternoon. Giving you the call ahead info to order pickup food at the turn is a nice touch. For the $28.50 rate I got on golf now I think it was a fantastic value!
Hilly Links
Not being negative but the course is somewhat hilly not unlike most Western Pa courses. A 3:40 tee time with heat index near 100 was perfect for playing Golf with Few on the course. Enjoyable, Forgiving but if you get out of position Tough! Greens were very good. Not fast, Not slow. Go play it and pick a tee box that give you a challenge. Got that Senior tee fans!
Not up to par
This is one of my favorite courses: but, today things weren’t up to the high standards to which they usually hold themselves. I’m guessing the weather lately would be the excuse. The greens are usually very, very fast. Today they were slow. You had to make yourself pound the ball to get it to the hole. The traps were in poor shape. Many had not been touched in days. The fairways, however, were in great shape. and the course layout offers a good challenge and spectacular vistas. The staff was, as usual, super friendly and eager to please.
Greens
Greens were in excellent condition and despite all the rain the course was in good shape. Some holes roped off due to recent rains, good course management.
Chilly but good
As I have said before, I love playing here. The vistas from the tees are spectacular. As usual, the course was in excellent shape. Fairways were card; greens were fairly fast despite your night rain. The only exception? The sand traps were untouched. This was particularly disturbing since there was to be an outing later that day. I have to admit, I do not understand since the rest of the course is meticulously cared for and many, many workers were mowing and raking and trimming The pro shop staff were particularly friendly. I played poorly the first 18 and was able to play a second 18 for only $12. Of course, they weren’t sure I would be able to get all the way around because of the forthcoming outing.
Favorite
One of my favorite courses. Nice layout. Well cared for. Fast greens. Beautiful vistas. In the cool of the early morning it’s spectacular.
Glengarry
Played this course on 10/03/2018. Course has had a lot of rain. Very sloppy. Course is not walkable so they had to let carts out. Very few cart paths but you still were not allowed on the fairways. Nice layout, some challenging holes(especially number two)
Zen golf
And early morning round at Glengary is a way to start the day! Beautiful landscapes, beautiful sunrise, quiet surroundings , and a terrific golf course. Fast, true flowing greens. Well cut fairways. And, when it hasn't been raining for three days, well raked sand traps with lots of sand in them.
Challenging but fair
This course was in great shape. The green were soft, yet fast. There are many changes in elevation, long par 5s, and a generous sprinkling of par 3's. We were first off in the morning and moved quickly. On several holes we were chasing the grounds crew as they were mowing and grooming. There was one green on the back nine
Beautiful
Beautiful vistas, fast greens in great shape, fairways cut beautifully. Only negative: first cut too deep. Shouldn't have to search for a ball (or lose one) one foot off the fairway even if you know almost exactly where it landed.
Morning round
I love the layout of this course. I especially like to play here in the early morning. The views are often spectacular. The course itself is challenging for the average hacker, though seniors and ladies are given (to my mind) far too much of a break. Greens were very quick (a plus); hole locations were often challenging. Fairways were beautiful, but first cut was a little high. One shouldn't have to spend 3-5 minutes looking for a ball in the first cut when he/she knows fairly accurately where the ball ended up. The sand traps need more sand and more care.
