The coures has great fairways and we realy enjoyed the layout.
I played in a twosome on a tuesday afternoon and the course was not crowded which we appriciated. The tees and fairways were in great sape!! The greens were well maintqined and rolled true, however they were a bit slower than I had hoped for. The "links" layout was also a plesent change for me. Overall I was an excelent experience.
Greens had mower tire patterns throughout
The greens had mower tire tracks throughout, you could tell where the mower drove back and forth on the green. This made putting on your line impossible. The greens should have been rolled after mowing. The bunkers look as if they hadn't been raked all summer, weeds growing inside the bunker. The bunkers we like hit out of wet cement. There was maybe a quarter to half inch or sand in the bunker, so if you did find one that was softer you hit the liner just be lower the sand. This is after the had told me they had prepped the course meticulously for an outing the day before. I would not recommend this course to anyone for what they are charging. I would play the course for $20, but $38 is asking way too much for the quality of the course.
Great links course. Challenging and fun
I love the Phoenix. The course was in decent condition. The rain fr the day before definitely left some standing water and a lot of the bunkers were flooded or packed down. Other than they, the fairways, tees, and greens were in great shape. Staff was very friendly. Play was a little slow but we had 3 foursomes in front of us. We will be back, that's for sure
Decent track
Long course with alot of heather and some blind tee shots. Nice fairways. Almost all of the bunkers are unplayable and unmaintained which is unfortunate because there are a TON of bunkers. Most parts of the course are in decent shape, some muddy spots here and there and grass bunkers that have filled up with water/waste(used to be a landfill). Not a bad course, pretty challenging and at a good price. Great views of downtown.
5 hour round
The course is decent. It was very wet and the bunkers were in disrepair. It took five hours to get around and the course is nothing special. There were two rangers, they knew it was slow and failed to resolve the problem.
Corse is in great condition
Course is overall in great shape the rough off the fairways were a little thick and I lost a couple of ball just off the fairways. I listed course as average but it has a couple of very challenging holes. It is a fun course to play and I would recommend it to anyone.
Overall, course was OK but some hazards and cart paths were in need of repair.
Decent course but it was a very rainy day. Some of the sand traps were in pretty bad shape. First tee is very poorly marked. Cart paths were pretty rough too. Course personnel were friendly and considerate. Ended up getting rain checks for the back 9 due to the weather. For some reason this only worked out to be a $6 golf credit at Phoenix since I used the Golf Now app to book tee times for the 8 of us. Kind of a shame when you pay $37 for 18, play 9 and only get $6 back as a rain check credit. Golf Now and Phoenix golf links need to get the rain check credits figured out!
Bunkers need some work.
Good round of golf with friends. Playing pace is slow, waited almost every hole. Nice course lay out, trouble with the deep rough. Bunkers need some work.
Treeophobes Rejoice
Phoenix has been improved over the past few years, It is still a model for those who want to golf in an eco-friendly way. There are trees on #18 only, so those of us that like a little curvature on our drives don't have much to worry about.
#18 is actually a pretty good candidate for tough but fair par 4s in Columbus. Drive over a hefty lake to a sloping dogleg left, then a wicked approach to a narrow green cut into a hillside and surrounded by a creek front and left.
As to the rest of the course, bring extra balls, because the rough will eat them up. The owners had the good sense to keep the waste areas wild - it adds to the experience as long as the ranger is capable of keeping ball hunters moving.
Course was in excellent shape really looking forward to playing it again!
Our foursome played the Phoenix for our annual tournament for the first time and we couldn't have picked a better course, especially since we were playing it on the weekend of the British Open! Unfortunately, the conditions were wet due to rain and thunderstorms that day so we had to stay on the cart paths. (Severe thunderstorm and lightning forced us off the course which caused the long play). The course was in excellent shape and the layout really made you think about all of your shots. Even the views were spectacular! Landing areas in the fairways were generous and both the greens and fairways were in excellent shape. Looking forward to playing it again and I'm sure we've found a new home for our annual tournament!
Been taking flack for playing dump but good course
Been getting a lot of joke about to did my shoes melt off - did creatures it my ball etc - but I thought course was in great shape - I did lose a ball or two in the tall grass but tee to green was awesome and the key was it was affordable- great views of city
Great View
It has a great view of Downtown Columbus, but the course isn't laid out well and there is a lot of construction type things laying around. They also didn't have coolers but grocery bags of ice. They also pack way too many people on the course. We eventually picked up our balls and left rather than continue to wait.
Good course and challengin enough for the avid golfer.
Good place to golf. Great views on 1st and 10th tee. Challenging enough but not exhuberently. Very well kept and good experience overall!
Greens were well maintained
Nice course, not too demanding. Would like to see 17 be the finishing hole. 18 now takes you away from the clubhouse.
The 3rd time I've played Phoenix and have gone from disliking it to liking it quite a bit.
I like to walk, and this place is walkable. I've done it twice. It's a long, uphill grind to the first tee and the last hole heads away from the clubhouse. You will finish more than 500 yards from the parking lot. If you aware of that and aren't afraid of some exercise, it is fine for walking.
Otherwise:
It is a links couse on the shores of I-71. Interesting holes and views of Columbus. Nice clubhouse and nice staff. It is well kept. Try to steer clear of the high grass past the rough. It is built on an old dump. It has a clay cap and therefore no trees, except for the last hole.
A Change Of Pace From The Ordinary
Phoenix offers a well maintained links style course at a good price. Hitting the wide fairways is it's own reward, because the deep rough is a real challenge when you encounter it. The green complexes are a fair test. They rolled a little slower than I would normally expect, but they were in fine shape.
My group played a better ball match, and this course is the perfect place to change up the normal rules a bit. I would love to play an alternate shot match at Phoenix sometime, and it would be a great place to play a Stableford match.
Well maintained city course
Excellent conditions on this old Columbus landfill, now a pretty golf course. Staff was extremely helpful, letting us go off of 10, due to a back up on the first tee.
Well maintained course, and an excellent value on the golfnow site
Couirse was in very good shape. Well maintained and an excellent bang for the buck.
Fairways and greens in excellent condition. We were a twosome and was the first group of the day. We were able to complete our round in less than 2 1/2 hours.
Like the course but not the staff
Enjoyed the course was a little wet in some places but the staff seemed like they did not enjoy there job. The mowing crew needs a leader totally random. You start at 18 and go backwards that way you hit each group one time. My group played with people in the fairways mowing 13 times. They did not stop to let us play or even pay attention to see if they were going to get hit. At the turn at 915 we where told that the grill does not get turned on until 930 but we were welcome to the cold cuts. They were standing around in the club house doing nothing.
Bunkers are atrocious.
Make a decision--maintain your bunkers or remove them. The course has an excessive number of bunkers to make up for the fact that it has water on only the last 2 holes. That would be fine if they put sand in them. Worst bunkers in central Ohio. I am done with "the dump".
