About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

Shale Creek is a difficult yet awesome coarse to play. The facilities are great and I can not wait to go back.
Shale Creek is Fun in Great Shape
Course conditioning is good: greens, tee-boxes, sand in bunkers, etc. ProShop, starter, cart guy, all accommodating to the Hot Deals players (no less service for our discounted rate). The layout is awesome, with wide fairways, fairway bunkers to avoid, and rolling terrain. The greens are big enough for a few GiRs, but also undulated so you have to pay attention to avoid the 3putts. Greens were really holding well on this mid-day round, so be sure to pay attention to yardage to avoid the long putts. #17 was playing a club extra (little breeze affecting), and it's green is the toughest (with big swale in middle). We got rained on (passing t-storm), but the cart's hoods are quick to position over clubs/bag. Thanx for the Hot Deals Special to outstanding Shale Creek.

Fix Bunkers and Sprinkler Heads
Shale Creek is a fantastic layout, greens are quicker than previous years. However, bunkers still need cleaned up and more sand added. Number 2 green and landing area is fried. Numerous sprinkler heads throughout the course are cracked underground and leaking. Rather than fixing the sprinkler lines, the maintenance staff ropes the areas off and does not mow them???

Love the course layout, challenge and condition
Course was in excellent shape. The course is surrounded by a development and apparently gets a lot of local play. Our foursome let at least 4 groups go through. 3-twosomes and 1 single, but never felt pressured from them. Two things to improve upon in my opinion is to mark the direction of play to the next hole better. No directional to hole number 1 that we could see and coming off of #9 had no idea which way to go. After looking around couldn't find a starter on a Sunday afternoon. Finally asked some kids hanging around where to go. Several spots like that on the course. For newcomers we wanted to feel welcome, but not knowing where to go and no one around to help, puts you in a unwelcome mood. And second, PLEASE REPAIR YOUR BALL MARKS ON THE GREENS!!!! Couldn't believe these beautiful complexes had so many unrepaired ball marks. Just plain lazy. Other than that, this course was in amazing shape, well maintained, offered playable challenges throughout and I look forward to coming back!

A fave!
No hesitation about playing Shale again! Love the variety of holes and how well it drains despite non-stop rains lately. We need to do better about fixing green marks, but overall I really enjoy the experience

The wettest spring ever. Greens were great. Pace of play a bit slow however it was cart path only.

Great Course
Course was in great condition even after all the rain....Driving range still not looking it's best but atleast they have one, and the balls are free...

Private Club with Public Prices
My father and I played in the early afternoon and it was great. The course was in great condition for the massive amounts of rain it’s had lately. The greens are in excellent condition. My only issue is that my father is a veteran with some back and knee issues and the course is definitely not friendly for cart path only play, let alone walking. By the time he got to hole 15 he was just chipping and putting because it’s a strenuous trek. Otherwise it’s a must play course.

Another Fine Day at Shale Creek
Our foursome played here last year and decided to play it again on another golf trip to Ohio. We found the conditions even better than last year and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. One of our guys that played it for the first time said he could play Shale Creek every day. We played an extra 9 in the afternoon after a great lunch in the grill room. We will Definitely be back!!

Great Layout! Excellent Condition
Love playing this course. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are always well groomed. Pin placement challenging. Today for some reason it seems they did not manage the pace of play. Had a twosome playing way too slow three groups up and no ranger in sight to speed them up. My buddy and I were forced to skip two holes in order to get to a better pace of play. If this course needed to do one thing better is manage the pace of play.
