About
Nestled in a quiet residential community, Shale Creek Golf Club sprawls across land that for a century prior had been the Gunkelman Farm. The course repurposes the rolling terrain into a challenging layout. The subtle changes in elevation make for some tricky lies. There are also many streams that meander through the golf course before cascading into the nearby Rocky River. The river even comes into play from the 10th to the 15th holes. The golf course features large, undulating greens and wide fairways. Water has a dominant presence on the course but the final holes showcase more traditional Ohio terrain with wooded, gently rolling hills though you'll still have plenty of water to contend with on these holes. Shale Creek Golf Club requires accuracy and it will make you think, but it's not too difficult for a beginner to enjoy.

Perfect condition
Everything about this course is in great condition. Surprisingly not many leaves on the course for the middle of October and the greens were in top condition.

Nice layout. Challenge from all tees
Played Shale many times, from the whites to the tips. Requires a nice mix of shots. Facilities well maintained, from range to course to the lockers and restaurant.Solon

Can’t believe it took me so long to play here! I almost never write reviews, but this course was so amazing I just had to let everyone know. Set up wonderfully, staff friendly and helpful, cart GPS worked well, and unbelievably manicured. Can’t wait to play here again

Overall nice course
Overall nice course. Good variety of holes. Will need to use most clubs in your bag. Some of the greens had significant scraping from mowers.

Slow play
Love the course unfortunately for us the only other two people we seen were in front of us and extremely slow back and forth on fairway at one point decided to just skip hole but then went back and just dealt with it also spent extreme amount on green and kneeling could see there knee indentations when on green Not really a reflection of course or staff maybe others will see and maybe pass along some golf etiquette. Amateur here also but know when to let someone play through

It's been better
Conditions have gotten worse this year. A nice layout. Staff is friendly enough. You normally pay a premium to play here, so the conditions should be better.

Course overall was in good condition. Some greens were in need of some care. Overall $35.oo was a fare price for this track. Pace of play was very good started at 11am on a sat.

Shale is a nice course
Overall had a good experience. Golfed here for the first time for my birthday. I enjoy more scenic courses and hole layouts (a lot of holes run through a housing development) but the course itself was in great shape. The greens were a little used but very well taken care of even with the amount of play they’ve taken. Fairways were in beautiful conditions. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, price is a little higher than I would expect to pay for the course but overall this was a nice place to play a round.

Excellent Golf
The course was extremely wet it still played very well greens were fast and true,bunkers need some help ,fairways are very good,love to play again when it is a little dryer big rain the night before
