Sonoma Ranch Golf Course

The course is in poor condition, i believe that it is not because of poor maintenance or the staff's fault. mother nature has taken over this summer with a significant amount of rain and it appears there is an infection of bugs because of the amount of rain. Its a great place to play and hope it returns to prior condition with time.

course has really gone down hill. Fairways taken offer by creping charlie and other weeds. Lots of dirt patches.

The course is in poor condition. Not worth the money. The tee boxes and fairways were full of weeds, tall grass or bare and uncared for. The greens were bumpy with bare spots. Worst golf course I’ve ever played at. Will never play there again. They should be ashamed for charging top dollar for a run down course. No wonder no one was there. Don’t waste your money, play somewhere else.

This course has great potential due to the layout and location but, the conditions of this course is absolutely terrible. Every single green is badly burned and diseased and not just on the fringe where it doesn’t matter but throughout the entire green, even some of the pin placements were actually surrounded by bald spots. Putting was a joke watching the ball jump around because of the conditions. I would not be complaining if it was a 25$ green fee but it’s not it was $50+. The fairways were the only good thing about this course because even the tee boxes just mounds of weeds with tee markers absolutely terrible!!!

I will not be returning just to pay $50+ for such a terrible looking course

Have played many times the past several years and course seems to be going downhill fast.

Many greens have brown spots and the majority of tee boxes are all weeds. The fairways also have many brown spots, dirt patches and weeds as well. Some bunkers are also full of weeds. Course under new management and I understand their first priority is fixing irrigation system. Maybe next year when thats fixed the course will improve. Golfers should save their $$$ now and play Redhawk or the University course. This one is a big dissapointment, especially for the cost to play.

There's really nothing good I can say for this course. I've played it many times over many years, and it just gets worse every year. The tee boxes are crap, the fairways are terrible, there's more grass than sand in the bunkers and the greens should be closed. None of the greens roll true and most have dead, burned out patches (near the hole). The hole, by the way, is placed by club employees. They can choose to avoid bad areas of the green, or they can choose to put the hole right in the middle of a bad patch. Guess which they chose? This course is an embarrassment to the community and an eyesoar for all the home owners that spent the extra money to live next to a golf course.

Course itself is fine. Not luscious greens, but fine. However for the price they charge it doesn’t compete with NMSU or Red Hawk. Be aware this course is deep in a housing community so every hole a stray ball could hit a house on either side. Hard to know where to hit on many holes.

Started wet but all was very nice as we went along. This course is above average compared to any other course in NM or TX.

I’ve played at Sonoma 3 times in the past month, and each time the conditions have degraded. Patchy fairways, distressed areas on greens, and overgrown tee boxes to name a few things.

They are also running a golf camp in the mornings and refused to make way for paying players. I had to play around them because they refused to move out of the 14th fairway.

Add to that a staff that doesn’t show genuine care for your patronage and you’re left feeling underwhelmed to say the least.

My advice is to go play Red Hawk instead; much better value for the money. I won’t be back to Sonoma.

Fairways are in very poor shape. They look poorly irrigated or perhaps a disease in places (see my pictures). Adding to it is that maintenance has hacked their way around the course. The grass is chewed down to dirt from poor mowing. There are other courses in the area at a better price point than this one.

Greens are great but the overall condition of the course has lots of bad areas. in fairways and tee-boxes as well as sand bunkers.

Dry spots in fairway getting getting worse! Greens are nice and roll good. Glad there is new ownership!

Overall the course is in very good condition…. Fairways are green and the Greens you will find challenging. However, the range and one of its putting greens are under repair so if you want to warm up you will be hitting off of mats….there is also no bunker area…Recommend the Sunset Grill…good food and atmosphere.

The course was burnt to a crisp, the greens were inconsistent, and the bunkers (traps) were unplayable.

A poor excuse for a premier course. By the looks , this course is well designed, but left to the ravages of the sun.

Dinner in the clubhouse restaurant was a welcome surprise with excellent food and service.
