Legacy Ridge Country Club
About
Bonham’s newest golf course has the natives all excited about their new Bill Johnston design, created to serve as the centerpiece of a unique residential community. With the benefit of several unique landscapes at his disposal, Johnston built a front nine that starts high and weaves through lakes and waterfalls, smoothly transitioning into a parkland-style route highlighted by pecans and oaks.
The par 5 No. 9 stands out on the front, taking you back up the ridge with an approach shot into an almost cliffside green nestled against the lake.
The wetlands of Bois d’ Arc Creek line the back nine fairways, keeping water in play most of the nine. Johnston made this one fun with multiple approach shots over water, including one par 3 that plays into an island green.
Do what you can to work your way onto this course, because it’s rare to experience such a quality course in such an enjoyable, rural setting.
Getting there : From McKinney, take US 75 north to the Bonham 121 exit. Hwy. 121 merges into Hwy. 56 south of Bonham. Turn right on Hwy. 82 E.

Needs mowing
The course layout is excellent. The problem is we spent way too much time looking for our golf balls that were in the fairway, so you can only imagine what it was like in the rough. Between my wife and I we lost 8 golf balls. Fairways were 1”-2” long; rough was 3”-5” long. Greens were long and slow. I think the rain, and lack of manpower keeps this track from being excellent. Our round lasted about 45 minutes longer than it needed to be because we were looking for our balls.
The Rain won't stop!
3rd time in a month stuck on the back nine because of rain. Some greens had small piles of cut grass and could have been blown off better imo. Also the rough seems a littlelong again imo, I've lost several balls that I felt I should'nt have. Please move hole location around a little better especially when stuck with only being able to provide 9 holes of golf for a 18 hole rate, most of them seem to be in the same location each time I've been there. Other than that the people there have been more than helpful and very friendly. Beautiful place and can't wait to see the front nine.
Better than most
Greens in good shape. Fairways better than most but still need thicker grass. A few tee boxes need water and grass. Overall getting a mid morning tee time 3 days prior and the cost is one of the best deals around. Definitely a drive but was worth it
Hidden Gem
Well, this was a pleasant surprise. It has been quite a while since I played this course, and it has made excellent improvements. The greens are wonderfully smooth and hold your approach shots well. The fairways were decent and looks like they're filling in for the season. The bunkers do need quite a bit of work though. The course is fairly easy with the front side being mostly straight away holes. This is where you'll want to score most of your birdies to prepare you for a little more challenging back side. Some recommendations would be to extend the driving range as it is currently irons only and to have cart girls drive around to provide beverages and snacks. Overall, this was a very enjoyable outing and I will definitely be back.
First Time to Play Legacy Ridge
I had not played in over a month, so I needed to hit some range balls but they were out of range balls. The practice area is almost non-existent. As far as the course, some of the best greens I have played all year, very smooth putting surfaces and held approach shots well. The fairways were spotty which surprised with all the rain lately. The bunkers were mostly
Unplayable and automatic drop. I did really
Enjoy the layout of the back nine with a lot of large oaks and dog legs. The front nine was like a completely different course, very wide open and mostly straightaway holes. But overall, I enjoyed the round and was paired with some guys that were a lot of fun.
Good course
This course is in pretty decent shape and is the best in this area for quality and price. I would play here.
Greens good
First time played in a while course getting in great shape lots of improvement on greens rolling good
Aeration this week
Good course but the front nine was aerified and the back none was done Tuesday, 03/24. I would say this course is two weeks away from playing OK again.
Great golf experience
The staff was kind and courteous. They all appeared to be engaged and really concerned with providing a quality experience. Keep up the good work.
