River Bend Golf Club
About
River Bend Golf Club combines some of the most unique play in the area with a course designed to provide an exciting golfing experience for players of all levels. Beautiful oak trees and meandering streams give the golf course its character, with elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and challenging areas of forced carry-including water features-and areas of forced lay-up in a links-style course, especially on the front 9. The back 9 is a more traditional golf course. All of this combined with the Texas wind makes River Bend a formidable challenge for even scratch golfers. It's one of the only only true links courses in south Texas. The staff is super and the course is very affordable. River Bend Golf Club has a unique practice facility that features an aqua range with an island green. A large putting green makes the Maverick a super practice area.
Distance: About 33 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio and worth the trip. Take Rt 181 from the Southeast side of San Antonio. Located off the 181 business loop (4th street here in the city), coming north or south off Highway 181. The loop runs north and south, like Highway 181, and runs about 1/2 mile west of it. The course and facilities are located in the Avalon Subdivision.

I Like This Course
Have played this course several times now, and really enjoy it. Several holes are wide open, and there are several that present a pretty good challenge. Not crowded during the week, very relaxed. Fairways and greens in great shape, especially for Texas in August.
Course needs TLC
Course has a great layout but greens, tee boxes, and fairways need serious attention
Excellent Course
Great course for the money, fairways and greens in EXCELLENT shape.
Course Management
Reserved a tee time for 2 people. Upon arrival was advised there were no balls available for the driving range. Tee time was 12:20. Was advised a foursome was going out at 12 and a threesome was going out before my tee time. Subsequently was told the 12:10 was supposed to be 2 twosomes but each twosome showed up with an extra person and they let them play two threesomes in front of us. No Marshall to control the pace of play. Played 9 holes and left. Will not play there again. There is no water on the course to drink and no cart girl. They blamed it on being packed. Should raise their green fees and spread out their tee times to allow golfers to enjoy playing instead of waiting 10-15 mins on each tee box. Took 2:20 mins to play 9
Good Value, but could be in better shape
Staff is great, courteous friendly.
Course needs a bit more work.
Good value course
Fairways and greens are improving but they need more work.
River Birdies
Tough times but played on in spite of Covid19. Enjoyed our round
Below average tee box
For the money this is not a bad course but the tee boxes are overgrown and uneven. I shouldn’t be standing below the ball and with grass up to the ball when teeing off.
Great Spring Break Activity with Grandson
We had a great time today playing a round of golf with our 11 year old grandson. He’s just a beginner, and we normally hesitate to take him on a “regular” course. We all enjoyed the day. The course was in good shape considering it’s the end of winter, plus we never felt rushed. The staff and other players there are all very considerate and kind. A great spring break activity away from crowded theme parks.
Horrible
Golf course was in horrible condition. Weeds throughout the fairway. You couldn’t even tell where the fairway ended and the rough started. Driving range was closed on a Sunday. Golf cart died out after 10 holes. Front desk was very rude and slow. The guy was too busy playing around with a line of people. Will never waste my money to go to this piece of crap golf course again.
