About
River Bend Golf Club combines some of the most unique play in the area with a course designed to provide an exciting golfing experience for players of all levels. Beautiful oak trees and meandering streams give the golf course its character, with elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and challenging areas of forced carry-including water features-and areas of forced lay-up in a links-style course, especially on the front 9. The back 9 is a more traditional golf course. All of this combined with the Texas wind makes River Bend a formidable challenge for even scratch golfers. It's one of the only only true links courses in south Texas. The staff is super and the course is very affordable. River Bend Golf Club has a unique practice facility that features an aqua range with an island green. A large putting green makes the Maverick a super practice area.
Distance: About 33 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio and worth the trip. Take Rt 181 from the Southeast side of San Antonio. Located off the 181 business loop (4th street here in the city), coming north or south off Highway 181. The loop runs north and south, like Highway 181, and runs about 1/2 mile west of it. The course and facilities are located in the Avalon Subdivision.

Great Course!
Fair warning - this is only the second Texas course I’ve played. I just moved from South Carolina where I played rather frequently, and I must say I am in love with this course. Interesting layout, thoughtful multi-level greens, and great condition!
If I could suggest one improvement: upgrade the tee box markers from painted bricks to something more fitting for such a nice course!
Well maintained and beautiful golf course
The golf course was very well maintained and beautifully designed. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Fun course
Good course layout. Several challenging holes. Fairways and greens in good shape.
Nice out-of-the-city course
Fairways and greens were in good shape. Some of the greens were due for a trimming; a little fuzzy. Pace of play was very good. Would recommend to any of my golfing buddies.
Great Improvement
This course is really coming along, the conditions are better than average in San Antonio.
Fun Course
I enjoyed the course immensely. Some short holes and very wide fairways. Greens can be slow when you're left with long uphill putts. You may 3 putt more often than usual. Greens are large so putting the ball on the proper side of the green is paramount. I hit it long since the fairways were running. Big issue was the bare spots around the greens, especially right up in front on short approaches. Mishit sand wedges cost me a cpuple of shots due to bare lies. I think it may be due to too much cart traffic greenside, or lack of water. Nice track though. I really enjoyed playing here.
Course in good shape
I really enjoy playing this course. The greens are big and are in great shape right now. Be prepared to have some tight lies in the fairways. Pace of play is good and the staff is friendly.
Country course
Nice course. Staff was very professional. Greens were in excellent shape. Pace of play was outstanding. Pared up with two locals. Very good players. Value was outstanding at $10.00 with cart. A lot of challenging golf holes. I would recommend this course.
THe bunkers have sand now!
Last month when I played the bunkers were in very bad shape. On they all have sand and are in very good shape.
has been dry weather causing the fairways with tight lies. greens were in good shape. over all had a great time
Worth the drive
There was a high school tournament in progress when I arrived so the first few holes were a bit slow but after that it was game on!!!!
Definitely recommend it and the staff was greattttttt.
An Up and Comer
Played early morning. Wildlife everywhere...saw hawks, a giant flock of turkeys, and several deer. Pro shop attendant could not have been any nicer and informative. Bunkers full of sand (could tell they have been recently redone) and greens were immaculate. Some minor hardpan in edges but fairways well maintained. Overall a very fun course for the money.
Riverbend is Back!
Has been a few months since I've played Riverbend and the improvements are very impressive! They were in the process of re-doing all the sand traps the last time I played and the results are outstanding! The greens were slow but smooth and the over seeding was very nicely done on all the greens and driving range. Young man at the clubhouse was very accommodating and knowledgeable of the Golf Now program. We had a great round and a great lunch at their Lou's Patio Grill. Only suggestion would be for the course to use the overseed used on the far end of the driving range (they seeded the entire range) be used for at least 3-4 fairway landing areas, which are already getting kinda hard to hit off. Outside of that, it was a great day of golf and food at Riverbend!
100 mile drive for this!
Drove 50 miles one way 2nd weekend in a row for this course. Really loved it again.
Top course in my 4 years in San Antonio.
Loved everything about my initial round at River Bend. I will return often and with friends. Wow.
Great experience
As always, the staff was extremely accommodating, and the greens were in amazing shape.
Nice countryside course
The course was nicely layed out with some requiring some great ball placement or you would be looking for a plane B. The greens were in Excellent shape but could have been mowed to improve speed but it in the winter time.
