River Bend Golf Club
About
River Bend Golf Club combines some of the most unique play in the area with a course designed to provide an exciting golfing experience for players of all levels. Beautiful oak trees and meandering streams give the golf course its character, with elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and challenging areas of forced carry-including water features-and areas of forced lay-up in a links-style course, especially on the front 9. The back 9 is a more traditional golf course. All of this combined with the Texas wind makes River Bend a formidable challenge for even scratch golfers. It's one of the only only true links courses in south Texas. The staff is super and the course is very affordable. River Bend Golf Club has a unique practice facility that features an aqua range with an island green. A large putting green makes the Maverick a super practice area.
Distance: About 33 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio and worth the trip. Take Rt 181 from the Southeast side of San Antonio. Located off the 181 business loop (4th street here in the city), coming north or south off Highway 181. The loop runs north and south, like Highway 181, and runs about 1/2 mile west of it. The course and facilities are located in the Avalon Subdivision.

Course in good condition
Great day of golf. A little crowded but groups let us play through. Greens are in great shape. Fun course.
Rough
Let’s start with the fairways... what fairways there dirt with a few grass patches. The greens were good and fast tho! I did like the layout of the course but the conditions we’re not that great. The roughs were better!
Course conditions
The course has a very nice layout, but the conditions were poor. Mostly dead grass in the fairways. Me and my partner preferred the rough since the grass was actually nicer than the fair way. Drove out of our way almost an hour to play this course. Mostly not to be returning again. However the staff was very friendly and nice. Just the course it self said otherwise. We ran into maybe 2 sprinklers that we could see, so that goes to show how much water is being used to keep the course alive if it ever has been.
Great Course
The greens are FAST!!! They roll very true. Fairways are starting to go dormant and get a bit thin but still in good shape. Excellent value and great staff. Front 9 is links style and back 9 is hilly playing though oaks and mesquite trees. Go play, you won’t regret it.
Fun course
I love playing river bend the staff is always friendly and helpful. This is a very laid back course and have yet to have had a bad time even when its cold and wet. Although it isnt the nicest course in Texas I really enjoy it you can slow down work on your game and actually enjoy golf unlike some places where you are being rushed and yelled at if you are slower than people behind you. If you are a beginner and would like to play on a course which you can take your time and dial in your swing this is the one.
Love the greens
Like the lay out. Number 9 and 10 are a bit to long for me. The greens are large and create the opportunity for some challenging putts. Had a great time.
Conditions
Staff great, this time of year course in good condition
Thinkers Course!
Great Staff, Course In Enjoyable Condition. Course layout evens the playing field. You’ll definitely have to play with your Brain vs Muscle. Certain holes force you to finesse your way to the pin. Practice your Irons before challenging River Bend In Floresville Texas!
Too bad.......
Third time playing the course. Staff very friendly and good value for what you get. TOO BAD the courseis not in better shape. I like the layout with some long par 4s and reachable par 5s it has so.e risk reward opportunities. Greens were in decent ahape and held balls well and rolled good. Thats the good..... Tee boxes and fairways were atrocious. Bring a hammer to get tees i. The grou d and good luck finding good grass on the fairways. Again, TOO BAD. This could be a nice road trip course for many in SA but not qorth the drive.
Thw course that could be
Played sunday. Staff was very friendly and price was great. (One of the reasons we made the drive). Th as for the course, the greens held balls well and putted true . The ourse layout is nice and with a lot of attention ould turn into a very enjoyable track. Today tee boxes and fairways were hard burnt and full of dead spots and weeds. Too bad, as the layout sets up for some fun holes.
Poor Grounds
Haven’t played this course over 4 years and WOW embarrassing to our community. Hitting ur irons off cement practically. Greens were best on course. Needs major improvement.
Expected much better
Big patches of weeds in the middle of the fairways caused me to lose more balls ever on decent shots. You expect to lose them when hit into water, woods or deep rough but not on the fairways. Sometimes you needed a hammer to get a tee into the hard ground at the tee boxes. This could be a much nicer course if it was maintained better, but not worth the drive out from San Antonio in my opinion, even at the low price I paid.
Haven’t played in a while but this is the worse I have seen the course, The tee boxes where horrible including the fairways. The greens looked good but that’s about it
A nice place to play
A quiet course about 25 miles south of San Antonio, Texas. Very friendly staff. Clean facilities.
Fun course
We’ve always loved playing here. The course is very “clean”, and we know it will get better with some spring rain and sunshine.
