Bad shape
The course needs some TLC. Any shot hit off the fairway and the next time you were hitting off deadpan 75% of the time. Even the fairways were burnt out. It hasn't been that dry in the area so I'm not for sure what exactly the issue is. The greens were in decent shape but if you're charging $58 on the weekend the course should reflect that. Otherwise, drop the price.
On top of that (and this isn't just a Timber Lakes problem) they need a course Ranger to speed up play. We got stuck behind a slow 5 some and what should have been a 3 1/2 hour round turned into 4 1/2 hours. 5 somes are a joke unless you've got 5 people who can play or you're scrambling. These people were doing neither.
Greens a little shaggy
The greens were a little shaggy. Seems like they needed to be cut. Several of the tee boxes, it was almost impossible to put the tee in the ground.
Nice course , clubhouse a mess
Great day of golf if you come only for golf. Greens and T boxes great condition, appreciated. Club house was a joke. One person checking us in and was the bar person. Cash only? Most people don’t carry cash. No water on the course. Could not get water on the turn, no staff. Bring lots of water and patience walking into the club house. One person working.
Great course
Great course ,last four holes are a challenge .
Course and greens where in great shape.
Excellent Conditions
I’ve played this course many times. Very challenging for my abilities, especially the back 9. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape and you can’t beat the value.
I am from the Staunton area, and Timber Lakes is one of my favorite courses to play. Unfortunately, I strongly believe that they have priced themselves out of the market for the course and the amenities that they have to offer for most golfers in the area.
SPRINGFIELD COUPLE
Nice course and fun to play.
Back 9 is a Challenge , so be ready.
Could have been a better experience
First time playing the course. Arrived 50 minutes early to take advantage of the driving range and putting. Upon checking in inside, the guy working the counter unapologetically told me they were still mowing the range, so it wasn’t usable. After chipping/putting for a bit, I noticed the mowing was done. Same guy seemed completely put off that I would ask to buy range balls again, and this time told me they hadn’t washed/brought any balls to the clubhouse yet.
As my foursome headed out to the first tee box, we were informed there we no tee box markers, as they had sent them all off to be painted. Well, surely they have done something to mark which tee box is which? Nope. All four of us had never played this course, which made each hole a guessing game on where to play from. Maybe in the future only paint half the markers at time? Use ground paint to mark the boxes?
Front 9 and back 9 nice feel like completely different courses. Not in a bad way. Tons of open fairways on the front, very tight and challenging on the back. Greens were in awesome shape and most of the tee boxes were also in great shape(minus the absent markers). A couple fairways needed some work, and the bunkers looked like they hadn’t been raked in several days.
Would I go back? Maybe on a HotDeal that is too good to pass up. Hopefully if I do, I encounter a more pleasant guy working the counter.
A Little Rough
This is my first time playing this course. The greens were in great condition. It had rained the night before, and on a lot of holes the fairway didn't seem to be cut. This may have been a result of the rain, but it seemed like the fairways had not been cut in several days. I visited this course because of the many times I had seen it from the interstate. I'm not sure I will return.
