Holiday Enjoyment
Shot an 88 on the course. Some difficulty and chanllenge on the course with the wind but played a decent round. Course was overall in good shape after a 5" rain. i will go back when Redbud course opens. It would be nice if the clubhouse construction was finished.
Winstar Golf Club Scissortail Course
Fairways are really wet (spongey) and the front 9 had a lot of new sod lain and some empty places where the took out the old sod but did not re-sod it.
When you get to the course, an attendant brings a golf cart to your vehicle and loads your clubs. Note: You can store your clubs there overnight, if playing again the next day.
Golf shop is a trailer and they have only limited items. The new golf shop is still being built and should be ready June/July 2023. They have a separate building for the Golf Academy which is nice. They have putting green , chipping area with green, and a bunker to practice your sand removal: :).
Staff are very friendly; however, some mower’s are not attuned to stopping while a player hits. Had several guys look at us and then keep mowing or keep driving to another location. Luckily, only two jerks during 3 days of playing.
The other course, won’t be finished until end of June/July.
Several greens on the front snd back nine had new sod lain and some greens had areas that were bald.
All-in-all we had a good time except for the cold winds which gusted to 15-25. Mph 2 days out of 3.
Challenging course but nice to play.
Bad greens
I’ve played Winstar many times. Scissortail greens are really bad. We had to move putts several times just to not putt across the bad spots. Very disappointed in the condition of these greens. Paying $55 on a weekday with these greens is over-priced.
Excellent course!
Overall, 15/18 greens were in perfect conditions. The fairways were immaculate. You could tell there has been some storm damage that they are working on on the other 3 greens as well as some tee boxes that could use some aeration. Other than that incredibly structured course with great amenities.
Decent shape but not great.
This course use to be in great shape but the big freeze and this last year have taken its toll. Rumor has it Scissortail is closing for renovations late spring. Redbud will be active then.. Cannot wait to see how it is now that it has been renovated. . They are trying and I am sure they will get to what it once was. Staff is great and pace of play was also. Still scissortail was a good round and we enjoyed it. Some greens a little rough but still very playable. Great time and worth the drive from the metroplex.
A true jackpot for golf
great place, really nice course
The people here treat you like family
Scissortail
We played Scissortail on a Sunday morning. This course will close soon for re-grassing when Redbud opens up.
Pace was pretty good 4:10. Greens mostly good shape with a few bad patches. Fairways very thin and several dirt or sand patches. Still dormant bermuda winter conditions elsewhere. Pro shop still in a trailer, but the new one should be open this summer. They are good about letting you know to get food/drinks at the start of your round due to lack of on-course or mid-round options. Very fair course, fair price, and rarely a bad experience here.
Having a massive casino next door is a plus. We went and watched the NCAA tournament from Toby Keith's after our round and the GF won about $50 playing slots!
Good Early Spring Golf
I played this course on several occasions prior to COVID so I had a good baseline for comparison. It is typically kept in great shape and has a nice clubhouse and bar / restaurant area. However, the clubhouse is now temporarily closed for updates and there is little food and beverage service. In spite of the construction, the course was in very good condition for this time of year. The a few of the greens had some freeze damage but most were in really good shape. The fairways were well maintained and the winter grass still in pretty good shape. Bottom line our foursome had a really good day in mild spring conditions.
Great course
I have been playing the Scissortail 18 since the Redbud 18 has not opened as of March 2022 Very nice layout. Make sure to play the tees according to your handicap. Scratch player—-2 handicap or better can handle the back, blue tees 3-7, white tees 8 or better or seniors that just do not hit the ball very far. I am not sure if there is another tee box in front of the white before you get to the womens tees. I think there is that plays about 5800 yards. These are all my opinions but just for FYI, I am 65, hit my driver on an average of 270. I have played the back on a fairly light wind day. I shot 80. I have played the blue tees under app,. the same light winds and shot 76,75,74. From the white tees I have scored 72,73,74,76,&79 on a very windy day.
Scisortale
First class service. They drive your cart to your car and starter searched me out to give me information on my tee time. Refreshment cart came around frequently and attendant was very friendly. Greens were in excellent shape and distance screens in carts were very accurate. One great amenity is they provide free range balls. Sand traps were as nice as sand traps can be.
