Second hole, par-3, 182 (blues). A challenging tee shot, yet the hole becomes tougher when you land a good distance from the pin. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

Fourth: The number 3 index, this par-4 or 424 will test your skills from tee to cup. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

The par-3 ninth plays 197 yards from the blues. Its green is positioned and shaped like a Redan hole, but without the right-to-left cant. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

The twelfth is named “Double Plateau” for its green, which means that the putting surface actually has three elevations. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

The fourteenth, a par-4 of 418 with water on the left, is named “Plead,” and you may well find yourself begging it for mercy before putting out. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 07/21/2023

18th, par-4, 458: You’ll need to commit to your full swing (twice) to play a hole tagged with the name “Trust In.” Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

16th: The short par-3 of 170 lives up to its moniker: “Fortress.” It’s green complex is built like one. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

An earlier, summertime picture taken of the first hole, called “Road Out,” gives a glimpse of a green sided by a road (behind) and a pesky pot bunker. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

The sixth–a.k.a. the “Red Oaks”--is index 13, but will still present a few problems enroute to a drive-and-pitch par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

“Timberlake” is hole seven, and the hole is all about avoiding the trees and playing some tricky angles from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/13/2021

Slow
I get that it’s a public course, but it took us 5 hrs to complete the round. On almost every hole there were two groups on the tee box. To make matters worse, when we asked for a ranger to come out, they said, “Sure” and never sent anyone. Since the course is relatively challenging, slow play is expected...just not 5 hrs slow.
Unless you are playing first thing in the morning, I would NOT recommended coming here. It’s too bad because I truly enjoy playing here but If you tee off after 12, expect a snails pace and the course staff to do nothing about it.
Great course conditions, greens were rolling nice and smooth. Some of the best conditions I’ve seen on a public course in the county. Great course layout, nothing to complain about there. Didn’t have to interact with the staff much, but the one interaction was pleasant. And overall it’s a really solid round of golf for the price.
As for the cons, we did get held up a lot on the back 9. Not sure if that was because of one slow group, or just overbooking, but it was a long round of golf.
Favorite course
I’ve played this course 5 times this year and just got a gift card for my birthday. Love this course!!! Excellent layout that is not real forgiving. Played from the blue tees, which is a real challenge. Haven’t tried the black yet. My only complaint is that the course really needs to enforce the fixing of divots on tee boxes and ball marks on the greens. These greens are unbelievably nice and challenging, however they are littered with ball marks. I find that I fix 5-10 of them per hole. Tee boxes are getting dug up too. I know it is because of Covid, but seed/soil mix would be nice on carts and tee boxes. Other than that, I definitely will be back. Definitely my favorite course and it is the hidden gem in CT!!!
Not what it used to be!
This course used to be one of the premiere top-notch courses in CT. Right now it is an embarrassment. Short-staffed, shortage of golf carts, fairways and greens in complete neglect. What was once a resort-like experience is now worse than your worst municipal course. Do not bother. You will be disappointed. Not worth the money.
My favorite course in CT so far.
Been exploring courses in CT and so far this is my favorite.
Pros
- Challenging layout
- Greens roll true
- Varying green sizes
- Fairways are perfect
- Distance required in many holes
Cons
- NONE
Love this place
Absolutely great golf course and staff. Enjoy it every time I play it.
I had never played The Greens at Oxford course until this year. Since then I’ve played it seven times. I absolutely love the course. It’s a course I could play every day.
Dry fairways
Was unimpressed by the course conditions. Used to be topnotch now dry areas and tee boxes are all ripped up!
Where are the rest rooms? NO signs at the turn or indications where to go!!!!
Layout is good but waited at every hole!
Worth a round
Great layout and good course conditions, for the most part. Tee boxes were puzzling, ample room on the tee boxes but it looks like they rarely ever move the markers. Some tee off areas were all dirt. Not sure why they aren’t moving the markers and reseeding areas every few days.
Besides that, the course was challenging and enjoyable and my group will definitely be returning in the future.
Speed of play.
5 hours in carts is too slow. The course needs to have a ranger monitoring the four guys in front of us. Unfortunately some people feel they paid their money and can do what they want at the speed they want to do it.
I have always hoped that golf would hold on to its values and rules. Including what to do concerning speed of play. I blame the course for nor monitoring this.
July Golf Day At Oxford Greens
Course is in excellent shape! Greens weren't running true speeds on some holes due to watering the greens which I get. Traps in excellent shape and fairyways. Tee boxes on the whites could use some tlc. But I played from black tees which were excellent. Course definitely challenging for average and immediate golfers and advanced golfers as well. This course definitely tests your skills. Top 5 golf course in ct. Play to see for yourself.
Big and long
Used every club in the bag to play this course. Sent a lot of time in various sand boxes in the fairway and around the greens. Very good course.
Fairly long but a fun challenge
Not having played a this course before, I was a little shocked at the overall length, for game play time.
The fairways were pretty hard and if the ball rolled off into the "hedges" just forget it. Most of the rough or shrubs masked steep fall offs.
It would have been nice if there had been more visible yardage markers too.
I would recommend this course to a friend, but with some helpful tips.
Good value
First time playing the course. Course was in goodbye shape, challenging holes,. It was a mid week morning round and play moved along, played 18 in under 4 hours.
Amenities could not be rated due to pandemic closure.
Difficult course, lots of fun
This course is difficult but fun. Some holes are simply not laid out well for the average golfer. For example, hole 12 is laid out so it’s nearly impossible to keep the ball on the fairway. I mentioned that to a ranger, and his reply was “obviously this requires a cut shot”. Sorry, but 99% of amateurs cannot execute a cut shot on command. Plus, this place is built in a retirement community. So you have 70-80 year olds out there. The terrain is so difficult to walk even from cart to green and back that play is very slow. I live 3 miles from this course but will only play Here if I have 6 hours to kill.
Summer round
Course was crowded due to current issues but pace of play was good. This course designed to challenge and at times eat you up, especially hole #3!
Not course for a beginner to play during prime hours. Always nice to play but too much housing developed close to holes!
Worth checking out.
