The Golf Club At Oxford Greens

The foursome directly in front of me (9:21 AM) were a disgrace to be on any golf course. They tee’d off on the very first hole while the group in front of them was looking for their tee shot in the right rough only a couple of hundred yards in front of the first tee. They were laughing about it at the time. I have played golf for 40+ years and never seen golfers act like them. They wore their golf hats backwards, played from the Blue tees and every time we came up to the tee behind them they were barely in the fairway and most times looking for balls less than 100 yards from the tee. They had no right playing from the blue tees. On the back nine, I don’t remember the hole my threesome had all three balls about 150 yards from the green as we waited to hit. One of the young men in the group decided to walk from the green all the way to us at the 150 markers in a rage. He was yelling at the top of his lungs and clearly was in an out of control rage accusing us of hitting up on them. He then accused us of calling the clubhouse to report them for slow play which we never did. He threatened us not to do it again and then walked all the way back to the green to finish the hole while we waited the whole time.

First, we never hit up on them. We waited until they were on the green on the par 4’s and were clearly out of range on the par 5’s. He told a ranger that we hit one to 6 feet from where they were. I have been in golf long enough to know that occasionally someone may hit a much longer drive than usual and it’s possible that it might ROLL up to them. Never did a ball that we hit come close to landing anywhere near them. He also claimed that they were waiting on every hole which they clearly were not. There was a hole open in front of them at times. Most times as I mentioned, we came to the tee to find them 100 yards away looking in the woods for balls.

I will probably not play at Oxford Greens again.

I haven't played this course in a while. I remember it being much better condition. The tee boxes were pretty beat up. A lot of divots in the fairways that were not taken care of.

Bunker last washed out, rocky, no sand. Can use them. Have to pull ball out and hit. Drainage is poor - always wet. Tee boxes are not kept up. Lots of wear and no repair apparent. A lot of money for a shabby course ($49).

Golf course went down hill little. Greens great shape..Fairways great shape. Tee boxes need work. Over all it's great track. Tuff for beginner golfers. Slow round all day. Always backed up. Need a ranger to pick up the pace.

I look forward to playing this course a couple times a year....not sure what is going on but the traps are absent of sand....have fist sized rocks and bee's making nexts in them. The tee boxes are pretty well beat up.

I'm not sure if its been lack of maintenance or memebership decline but this is a great course that needs some TLC....

Other than the somewhat slow play in front of my group, I was pleased with the courses playability. I had a tough day overall but course allowed me to regain some shots in some spots. If I were to get a similar deal to the one I got today, I would definitely try to come back and play it again

I have played this course multiple times but have never seen the sand traps in such poor condition. More rocks than sand.

Fairways and greens were in great condition.

The layout is promising. Well structured and challenging holes but some are hard to navigate which causes problems when you are not a regular player and you don’t know where you are hitting. The course runs through swampy land and both times I’ve played it, it has been waterlogged which detracts from the experience. The greens are slowish and the sand in the bunkers is hard packed. So the design is interesting but the conditioning and maintenance are not great.

Course was in good condition except for the sand traps. Everyone is in need of repair which I’m sure is a project they will be undertaking but the season is here and they should have already started! Could be a big negative going forwards

I've played this course a number of times. Though it has a reputation for sometimes being crowded, if you go with the slightest of discomfort (i.e. cart path only) the locals all stay home. I was told the facility was just sold to its old manager and big changes are in the works. I'm hoping that explains why it looks like no one has paid any attention to the fairways all winter. Huge divot pelts dot the fairways. Flagsticks are leaning. Traps are horrendous. Greens, on the other hand, were in pretty good shape. Once they get their house in order it's a track worth playing again and again.

This course has a beautiful layout and setting. It makes me very sad that the powers in charge has let this course get into the shape it is in. It does not appear that they have spent a dime on maintenance the whole season. There was not one bunker that was in playable condition. There is no sand and ruts and water everywhere. The tee boxes are terrible. They are so beat up I don't think the tee markers have been changed in months. Did not see a ranger on a Saturday. It was cart paths only and the foursome in front of us were driving all over the course. No one said a thing. Employees were very pleasant but my friends and I will never play here again.

I like the course...the layout...the length (from the blues at 6665, not the blacks at 7186 that I'm too old to handle). This used to be one of my top five playable courses in the (extended) area. Condition issues, however, have moved it down significantly. The fairways have too many unreplaced divots. The sand traps have too many rocks and not enough sand. The greens have too many divots and way too many spike marks...more than I've ever seen on a decent course in my 50+ years of golf. As mentioned in another review, there is a lot of poison ivy in the rough. Away from the condition issues, this is a good course that rewards good shots and penalizes bad shots. By picking the correct tees, you should have to use all your clubs, as in it's neither a lot of driver wedges nor a lot of driver fairway woods. I check the box saying that I would not recommend the course to a friend, but I would recommend it with the understanding about the conditions. Hopefully, they get better.

this is a nice course but they just plugged the greens and putting was horrible, I wish GN would notify me when booking of this type of course maintenance, then I can wait a week to play. you couldn't hit in a 2' put the ball was going all over the place. but I have played here before and it is usually in good shape

This is the third time I played this course this year. It was cart path only because of the rain the day before. My only complaint was the traps were totally destroyed. Don’t know if if was because of the storm that happened. We had to take our balls out of the traps every time we went in one.

I love this course. It is really pretty and a challenge.

Challenging course made more difficult by below expectations conditions. Poison ivy lined fairways, burned out areas and hard packed dirt traps. Needs work to get back to its former top ratings.

The attitude of the clubhouse attendant was dismissive when I suggested that there are ways to allow egress for disabled folks on some of the very difficult sloping holes. Totally dismissive, could use some training on how to deal with simple question other than "we can't do that". Really.

Of your a real golfer this is one of the best public tracks in CT. Especially for the value. I’ve played all over the northeast and this is truly a great golf course as far as the style and layout and you will not find a better price for this type of course.
