Gotta love zoysia
So I was kinda disappointed that it is still cart path only... Took a long time to play 18 holes but the course was in good shape for this time of the year
Great track
Played in early March, so the course was in great shape give it was still winter and in a dormant condition. Greens were still quick. The holes in this course have lot of character and challenging, but nothing extreme. Love playing this course.
when to close the course
On Saturday, at 9:20am the course enforced"cart path only" and reversed the course, starting on 10 (a forced carry over water).Because conditions dictated the cart path policy, and the layout is one where the cart path is almost always below the fairways, it is hard to see where your ball is.So that makes playing very slow. In addition, there was snow and ice on many of the holes. The staff kept reminding us to take it slow and watch for black ice.
I believe the conditions dictated closing the course, or at least waiting until later in the day. I know, weekends during the winter are times to make $$$,but saving the course and allowing patrons to enjoy the course should be paramount.
Great value
Played January 28 on a 70 degree day. Round took almost 5 hours but that should be expected on a beautiful day in the middle of winter. Greens were slow, but fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. Sign me up to play another round.
A taste of the ozarks is right on
Second time playing this course. Love it. Learned alot from first round. Unless your a big hitter go to forward tees and enjoy your day. Like most ozark courses call ahead for cart path only conditions. Myself and partner have bad knees and it was path only. Other than that what a great course. Food prices and beer prices very reasonable compared to some Johnson county courses that like to stick it to your wallet.
Outstanding value
Great course. Worth the driving time from Overland Park, Kansas.
First time - want to come back
Nicely groomed course of zoysia fairways, grass rough, challenging in fairway width and strategic placement of bunkers, traps, streams and lakes. Greens extremely fast and hard to read. Played white front nine as a single, teamed up with a 3some at 10 and played red with them. Actually scored better on the back nine. Their hints on where to avoid helped. Seeing their putts first helped. Amazed no GPS on the carts (but a lot have such, mine was phone app and there was no reception at this course....weird). Liked the t boxes on different levels....which meant a lot of hills. Would not pay $52 to play....look for a deal on GolfNow.
Nice course
Beautiful course. Greens can be quite challenging. Only negative would be trying to find your yardage. The only markers are embedded in the cart path or the 150 yard pole in the center of the fairway. I prefer not to have to run up to the cart path to get my yardage and was frustrated when I've played courses not near this nice that had much better markers.
This course is in great shape.
This is the best shape that I've ever seen/played on this course. Great value for the money.
very enjoyable place to golf
Hilly sort of like Swope Memorial. Greens in great shape.
Beautiful course, challenging and fun
This is one of our favorite courses in the KC Metro area. Challenging but not overwhelming or frustrating . Staff is awesome , play is typically fairly fast even on busy weekends.
Great playing conditions
It had been several years since I played Winterstone. Wow. The course is in fantastic shape. I would say it is one of the better values in the Kansas City area.
Exceptional Value.
The layout of of this course is great. Lots of hills, trees, and undulations. The overall condition of the course is fantastic. Great golfing experience.
Good course equals good time
The course was in good shape and I was playing well. I reserved online as a single and ended up playing by myself, not too busy on a mid-week day resulted in a 3 hour 20 minute round.
Fast, contoured greens added to the challenge. The only hole I take issue with is #10 - the forced carry off the tee is a bit long from the standard tee box. Online discount made it a good value.
Nice course
Back nine easier than the front but both require making the right choice from the tee box in order to take advantage of the layout. You can find yourself hitting many side hill shots if you don't think before you play your shot. Greens fast and challenging but not to the point of being unfair. A very nice course
Marshall
We spoke to a marshal about a woman 2 groups in front of us that was stacking everyone up. I literally watched her hit 4 balls off the tee and 3 off a later tee. I fully expected the marshall to speak to her to speed things up. Instead he sympathized then did nothing. I eventually yelled to the woman "we don't have time for you to hit 3 tee shots ma'am. I believe she got the message because she did not do it again. However, I feel like the Marshall should have taken care of the situation.
Fabulous course.....but short par 3's
The course is fantastic, but for the par 3's. I'm sure they had no choice to make two of them 100 yards to fit the course into such a small area. I would rate the course among the best in the region if they would lengthen the par 3's, because the other holes are spectacular and a fair challenge.
Great shape and great layout
I've played several courses while being here in the Kansas City area and so far this is the best. My only complaint was the course was a little wet, but that's Mother Nature, nothing the course could do. In fact, although it was cart path only I still played the ball down, a testament to the course conditions.
Best course in town!
Awesome. Best course in town! I my personal opinion.
