Shoal Creek Golf Course

10-15 years ago, this was my home course and it was never in this great condition. Tees, fairways, and greens were all in great shape. The greens were moderately fast, but not lightning fast. The rough is penal but most of the fairways are generously wide for all but truly errant drives. Tee choices make this of appropriate length for anyone using "Tee It Forward" logic, if you're honest about how far you truly hit your driver, including "combo" lines on the scorecard and registered with the GHIN system. For the excellent conditions, greens fees are reasonable and include carts with GPS. Worth the drive, even if you live on the east, west or south side of the KC metro.

Things I liked:

- A good variety of interesting golf holes. The par 5s were fun. The back 9 blends open/forgiving long par 4s with tight/demanding short par 4s.

- As a faster single, a few groups let me play thru. Thank you!

Things I did not like:

- In parts of the course, the conditions were lacking. Burned out/dead fairways, spotty greens, hacked up tee boxes.

Things important to me:

- Cart rates are posted online.

- Given just the distance to the first hole (and then the distance from #9 green to #10 tee) I would not recommend walking this course.

- Their branded ball marker is cool.

Overall a great layout and fun to play, could have been in better condition but it’s been a tough year for golf courses so grace there. Pace of play was very slow and they call you in off the course well before dark not allowing the opportunity to finish the last couple holes if you’re cutting it close. We teed off in plenty of time to finish before dark, but due to a 5 hour round that was not possible. Need to do a better job marshaling the course to push slow groups along or break them up.

Even with the recent aeration this course is always a pleasure to play. Yes, the putts rolled slower than usual, but let me tell you Shoal has some of the nicest fairways you’ll find in the KC area. Great job guys!

Great golf course and it was in very good condition.

Shoal Creek is considered one of the better golf courses in the Kansas City area. However, given the conditions, it is too pricey. They charge $74 for the Saturday morning round when in reality, the corse was more like a $60 course. The fairways on several holes were very stressed and worn. I wouldn’t expect to see that for a $74 course.

Beautiful course definitely will return. Will be my go to course when in kc.
