Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Chehalem Glenn Golf Course Photo submitted by AllenGoodall on 09/08/2015
Has potential, decent layout, room for improvement.
Good setting for a course nestled in the hills of Newberg. Course has a lot of fun holes and a few that failed to impress. You could tell it's a new course and they are working towards improving it. A few holes on the back were being re routed which made for an inconsistent playing experience. Play came to a screeching halt on the back 9 as 1 group slowed everyone down. Should have been an easy fix for a marshal but no one was around. Also I recommend a cart unless your interested in a hike or two.
A difficult walk --very up-and-down, seemed like mostly UP.
This is an outstanding suburban public course, quite challenging for the once-a-week golfer.
For an oldster like myself (67), walking and carrying was quite tiring, more than any other course I've played in Oregon (including Bandon Dunes, Black Butte Ranch, Sandpines). It's walkable, but be prepared.
Not a walking course
This is a cartball course, often with horrible green to tee transitions, Plus the practice areas are horribly located as they increase the walk unforgivably. The course was routed with little imagination, and next to no knowledge of how to use the terrain appropriately. The course is over watered, and the greens excessively soft, and slow. I have to wonder if they have a trained superintendent, or just a hobbyist grass grower.
It was awesome, go check it out
Golfnow first time user and it was easier than I thought. Gary was very friendly at the club house. I recommend a cart and bring a few extra balls, lol.
Overall experience was Awesome!
Changes make for better golf
The changes on homes 12 and 17 make the course more playable. I'm not sure why the put a second green for 13. It was a good par three already. Put the green back to original.
Great value
If you ever need to be humbled, walk Chehalem on a 90 degree day. A good test for anyone.
Difficult but worth the challange
This is my favorite difficult course near Portland. Since I am a senior player I ride, walking is for the young and billy goats. The course is in great condition and I enjoyed the new hole modifications.
Awesome course with even better views.!
Played 18 holes on their twilight rate ($20) which is a steal for this course. Staff was friendly and helpful. It's definitely one of the best courses around. Well kept, great fairways and greens.! Even though it's a pretty challenging course we all enjoyed the round. Love how the tees and holes are placed. The par 3s have an intimidating look to them which make it exciting.! Could say enough about the course and definitely deserves a higher rating on here.
great course for the price
C.G. is a outstanding course for a daily fee facility. Best bargain in the Portland area.
The right staff
This was my first time playing this course. And what really stood out was how friendly the staff treated me all across the board. From checking, to the starter that paired me up with another group and still allowed me to keep my cart. To the friendly Marshall who never said a word to the pace of play, which was spot on for a crowded Sunday morning. Where I come from some of these things are recipes for a bad day. I'll definitely be back.
shot placement and long on the tee
Love the differences between the front and back 9. Front 9 appears to have some water issues as it was pretty dry in places. Shot placement is a must on many holes so first timers will be at a disadvantage. Many holes will give beginners fits as you must carry the large valleys or be forced to lay up. The back 9, holes 14-17 make the course.
Awesome Course
We played on a day where it 90+ degrees. Most of the water containers had water and one did not.
The course itself was in great condition and the greens were fast. The fairways were perfect and some of the rough was a little dry.
I enjoyed the new changes they made to the course. Though hole #12 was the biggest challenge on the course, the course is now much more playable.
Overall, I would play this course again.
Best deal out there
This is a wonderful course to play if you haven't yet. It offers you a front 9 which is distinctly different than the back but both are challenging. The course has been in great shape whenever I have played and it seems like it never gets crowded. They also have a great practice facility. The only thing someone could say negatively is that they have a trailer as their clubhouse. But if that means I can play there or less than 40 bucks anytime sign me up!
Change.
The changes to two holes did make it more playable.
The course was challenging
The course was in good shape. I need to play the course more often to be able to get down shot placement. The green were tricky to read as when we first started they were a little on the slow side, but by the 10th hole they started to firm up. Enjoyed playing the course and will be back.
My day.
The course was a pleasure to play. I enjoyed it so much I'm returning next week.
I'm hooked
Great course... Have to play again, soon, very soon... Bring your Gatorade if you plan on walking, but worth it....
Interesting course. Very slow...
Course was in good shape. Back nine is very challenging and requires long carries on a few holes. My biggest complaint was the pace of play. There doesn't appear to be any effort from the course to encourage people to move along.
Conditions great
Greens fast but also receptive and smooth. Had to wait for someone to help in food and beverage in clubhouse while staff was talking with each other instead of paying attention. The course itself was phenomenal. I would go back again.
Great course
It's a great course if you are looking for a challenge, back 9 is brutal.
Course is in great condition, and I finished my round in 3 hrs.
