Cart path only was slowing pace of play but I understand the conditions requires the course to stay in good condition.
Great Nov conditions
Course was in very good condition. Great price. Shame the range is closed, or it'd be 5 stars.
An unlikely disapointing situation
Normally a great place to play.. not today
Was disappointed with the greens which were aerated 3 weeks ago. I asked when booked and was told the greens were good… not quite healed yet, so no they were not good. Was also surprised to find it was cart path only as they were blowing out the sprinkler system and didnt want carts running over sprinkler heads.. and lastly the pub was not open today (thurs-sun only) at this time of the year.. I wish I could have at least played well to take something good away but alas the Golf Gods were not favorable…. My 9th round this month and this one was kind of a dud…. I get it, it’s that time of year so it is what it is…
We did find a nice pub down the road in Upton though.. The Red Rock Grill & Bar which if you find yourself down that way give them a try.. food was excellent..
Fall ball
Leaves everywhere, very hard to find the ball. Also they’re doing work on the par 4 7th hole and it is instead a 120yd shot from a temporary tee box. I like this course normally but didn’t love the shape it was in. Standard for this time of year, however. They could have made a better effort to clear off some of the greens/fairways.
Great wxperience
Course was in terrific shape. Greens fast but not crazy. Good layout with a lot of different shots. Spectacular fall views. I play many different courses in New England and this one you should play.
Great course
This is a great golf course, first time playing it, only negative was the greens that day. But, they did tell me the aerated them recently. I will play there again next season.
Terrible Changes
I have been playing Highfields for over 10 years. I've liked the layout, and thought it a fun, challenging test. The greens could be a little slow on occasion, but generally they rolled true.
Pace is usually an issue, as the back nine always slows down around the 12-13-14-15 stretch. My Labor Day round took almost 5 hours, with a big gap in front of the group a couple groups ahead of us. I saw the ranger a lot during the round, but he didn't do anything to speed up play.
I have not been a fan of the fence they put up on 12. It uglifies the hole, and forces you to play the hole a particular play, leaving you no options. I don't try to drive the green, but I do try to carry the hazard, which the fence now prevents, particularly when the tees are placed back right.
For this round, they put all the tee markers on 7 in the fairway, basically turning the hole into a long par 3 (225 yards). I wasn't a fan of this, but would have accepted the change if the tees had been placed in a flat portion of the fairway. Instead, they were on a slice lie that definitely puts the OB on the right of the green into play.
My friends and I won't be returning.
Just Go...
From Cart folks, to Pro, beverage cart, to Starter...just a go to group...even had a Ranger roaming(in the past, did not see one ever, but a subtle change)...
Course is its usual self...makes you use all the clubs to get to the green, and if you forget the green is a entirely different "course" you will most assuredly three putt more than usual...fast, faster and with lots of undulations...pitch, chip, putt must be right on to score well
Once the Fall season starts, the vistas will be delightful...definitely worth the trip...and regardless of the round, the 19th hole over looks the 18th ...
HF golf
I have played the course before and the staff was kind & helpful .
Greens were fast & true
Fairways was snood with run
