The National Golf Club of Louisiana

About
The National Golf Club of Louisiana is the cornerstone of the Westlake community. The course wanders through towering stands of beautiful Louisiana soft pines that provide an idyllic setting. The layout measures more than 7,000 yards from the back tees, offering plenty of holes that will please long hitters. The challenging greens are known to be some of the largest of any golf course in the area. The size of the greens can accommodate a variety of hole locations, allowing the course to play differently each time. You'll be tested with 80 strategically placed bunkers and 14 different lakes that come into play throughout. The generously wide fairways are seemingly docile but the subtle slopes and rolling terrain can be unforgiving. Accuracy and proper club selection are the keys to scoring well at The National Golf Club of Louisiana.

Staff needs training.
It's not hard to refill water coolers in the middle of the summer. Making someone pay over $3.50 for a 20oz sports drink is ridiculous. The cart girl didn't even come around on the back nine.
That would be fine if we were allowed to bring our own coolers.
When I walked in the pro shop, I had to greet them
They looked at me like I was stupid. They expected me to know where everything was and how things worked there..
The grounds keepers and the Marshall deserve all the credit on this visit. I dont plan on going back. I expected more.
Golf and Gamble
1st time at this course. Nice layout. Great staff. Great value with TeeOff. Only reason for low mark on condition was due to recent aeration. Would definitely play again.
Great Course, Bad Experience
The course is in great shape. My two big complaints are this: 1)The pace of play was excruciatingly slow and nobody that worked the course seemed to care at all. 2) It was 100 degrees raw temp, multiple water coolers were empty and the cart girl had no water to sell. She mentioned that they were completely out of water.
I brought 80oz of water knowing it was going to be a scorcher. I never dreamed a seasoned course that knows summer heat would let their coolers run dry and leave their cart girl with no water.
Ordeal
I took a chance that the wind would mitigate the heat. Unfortunately, the wind died. Making matters worse…many fairways had automatic limiters on the carts despite ninety degree rule posted…making it cartpath only. Despite taking an extended break at the turn, the heat and fatigue sapped my strength and any control in the short game. Seniors should not play this course during heat advisories! You will be required to walk on many of the fairways…which appeared to be in good shape. See you in late September.
Golf in LA
Great course. And it was great to be paired up with Joe from Lake Charles. Joe gave us some course knowledge that was very helpful.
It’s grow up!
Played here when the course was opening. Noticed the old club house is still there. Driving range shutdown! - 1 putting green not cut -1
Golf cart attendant very rude. The young man needs a lesson in manners. -2
We played behind a fivesome who was a little slow despite “looking like regulars”. Pace of play -1
Maintenance rolling greens ahead of us. Made for very smooth greens. +1
Water and ice at restrooms is good. +1
Restaurant very good. +2
Will we return? Probably yes but since we’re from Houston, it won’t be anytime soon.
Good value
Nice layout, conditions were average. A few weeds in the greens but it’s February and excusable. Overall,, a little better than average course but well worth the bargain price of $33.
Pace of play
Pace of play was tear able. There were 6 teams of 5 players and we were were not allowed to tee off on the back with no one coming up on nine or tee off on 10. Playing in a twosome the pace miserable .
Beautiful course
For middle of January i was not expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. Fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. The greens were near perfect. The bunkers need to be redone but other than that i was a really fun and great course. The clubhouse has this huge restaurant that i didn’t get to go to but looked really nice as well. I will be back. 9.5/10
This course is overrated
Not a terrible course but maybe my expectations were way too high . Bunkers were horrrible , greens subpar. Here and there you’d have nice fairways and greens but as any golfer will tell you , one bad kept green or fairway ruins your round and this one had several unkept.
Course receives great grooming
As a single, I teamed up with a couple of older players more my age who were a delight to play with. Their familiarity with the course helped me greatly.
