Nine Holes of Old-School Parkland Charm

The Redwater Golf Course offers a delightful step back in time, embodying the classic feel of the community-built courses of yesteryear. This 9-hole parkland-style design, lovingly maintained by the local community, is a pretty layout defined by its generous, tree-lined fairways.

The Layout and Playability

At 6,296 yards from the tips (which feel shorter due to the very firm, flat fairways), Redwater is not a lengthy challenge, prioritizing accuracy and short game over raw power. The course provides three sets of well-maintained tees, making it accessible for all skill levels.

Trouble is minimal here; the rough is light and fairway bunkering is shallow and sparse. The primary defence comes from the mature tree lines. While the fairways are forgiving, stray shots can find trouble, though the open nature of the course still often allows for a manageable recovery shot.

The fairways themselves were extremely dry the day we played—a likely consequence of water being a premium resource in the area—which contributes to the short yardage feel but makes for fun, links-style run-out.

The Standout Feature: Small Greens

The greens are the true highlight and arguably the course's best feature. They were found in excellent condition, putting smoothly and running true. Their receptive nature adequately accepted approach shots. These targets are small and are well-protected, with seven of the nine greens featuring bunkers that require attention and were similarly well-maintained.

Water hazards come into play on three holes: a small pond guards the short Par 3 third hole, a hazard comes into play on the seventh, and a clear carry is required over water on the long Par 3 eighth.

Amenities and Community Feel

The facility is a true small-town operation, run with friendly efficiency. The staff are warm and accommodating; the lady working in the pro shop was welcoming, and we noted two employees actively working on the course (cutting grass and watering greens) during our round.

The clubhouse offers a full food service, which is a great asset for a quick stop. However, the pro shop inventory is basic, and while there is a practice putting green, a driving range was conspicuously absent.

Recommendation

Would I recommend a stop at Redwater Golf Course? Sure. If you are passing through the area, it is well worth stopping to play a quick nine. Supporting this intimate, community-driven facility provides a fun, relaxed golf experience that stands in contrast to modern resort courses. The course offers a pleasant, quick game and a refreshing dose of small-town golf charm.
