OK but ....
This is a good example of a resort course: forgiving layout, top notch amenities (club house, etc) , high prices and most who play it, like it. Where the design is professional and flows well the rest of the course is less than perfect. The bunkers and there are 70+ of them are poor. The sand, if there is any, is low grade and one wonders if it's bunker sand at all. The turf dries out quickly leaving massive brown spots on the fairways especially on the tops of the small hills. The well designed greens have been cheated of good soil leaving them a pale green color with brown spots most of the summer. The maintenance crew do what they can and it's too bad the owner didn't put as many resources into the soil and bunkers as was done with the design. It looks as if the natural beauty that once surrounded the course is being replaced with backyards and fences as houses keep replacing trees and wildlife. This is a good course; Storey Creek is a great course, IMHO.
Awesome course conditions
Great evening for golf. Crown Isle has yet to disappoint. Course was in excellent condition.
Crowne Isle Golf
Crowne Isle is a very good course with great conditioning despite the extreme lack of rain. With 5 tee Vicks to choose from there is an ideal length for everyone. This course requires accuracy over distance as you are rewarded for hitting you targets. The bent grass fairways offer very receptive play and the bunkers while deep have good sand allowing for good shots to be made. The greens roll fair and hVe enough undulation to make them challenging. The staff here are very pleasant and helpful and the nineteenth hole offers a nice patio for drinks and food after the round. The deer come out to graze at dusk making for wonderful post round entertainment. I would recommend this course and resort to anyone travelling in the area.
Excellent Value
This was an excellent price for this golf course where the rates are normally so much higher. It's a fun course to play, manageable walking, and suited to all levels of golf
Really good
Was in great shape. Greens good speed and well kept.
Very playable course
Very nice course for any level of golfer. Pace of play was well over 5 hours. We were following a threesome, a twosome and a single then a couple of foursomes. Course Marshall and starter should have not allowed this.
Great Course
This course is in great shape year around. It has enough challenges for better players yet does not beat you up if you are a high handicapper. Friendly staff and good facilities round out this course as well worth your time.
Golf with company
Company from Scotland loved it. We had a friendly starter which set the tone for the day
Worth stopping in for at $30-$40/round
They think this course is better than it really is. Sure, it's a good track, and you can tell they put a fair amount of work into the grounds, but it's the kind of course you play when you score a deal on it and you'll be in the area anyway, not the kind of course you plan a trip around.
Ps. Deep bunkers should have a low point for you to enter/exit without having to clamber in and out.
this course is in great condition
a great course to play but not for the beginner, it has a lot of challenges
Must play if you travel to Vancouver Island
If you do make it to the Comox Valley you should try and plat this course. With 4 to 5 different sets of blocks it will level the playing field for your group.
Great Golf Course
This golf course was an enjoyable experience for our forsome. The quality of the course was excellent and the view from all the holes was breath taking. If you are in the Comox area I would recommend this course to anyone.
Well maintained course with friendly staff but "island pace of play"
I played this this course several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. The course is well maintained, start-staff are very efficient and the practice area is always "practice-ready". The food in the resto is good with reasonable prices. However, several times, specially over the weekend, "island pace of play" takes over. It was very difficult to get a playing rhythm going! Several times, I played completely dry except for the first 3 holes. I would recommend that they require high handicappers to use carts or group them in twos (when possible!) to speed up the pace of play specially over the weekend. All-in-all its a good course with a Vancouver island feeling.
Great day at the course
I must say, the course superintendent and his/her staff must be commended. I have played this course over the years and have been impressed each time with the condition of the greens and fairways. Worth every nickel.
Great greens
Challenging course, watch out for the bunkers. enjoyed the setting...... will be back.
In the Hot Seat
The course was great, the fairways and greens immaculate. Only real complain was the absent drink cart over 18 holes. She came around when we were just teeing off on hole 1 at 2:30 pm and then vanished into thin air. Non existent course shade on a 26C+ day, even with 4 water bottles between two of us we were quite dehydrated by the time we got back to the club house. Enjoyed the golf but the experience sucked dry by lack of liquids. Word the the wise, pack lots to drink for hot midday play.
Superb fairways and greens
highly recommend the course in the condition it was in. It is challenging especially for golfers shooting around 100, and not knowing the course layout. The second time will be easier as you know what to expect.
Crown Isle
Course was in great shape for this time of year. Greens were a bit stiff, which lead to many balls bouncing and rolling off. Pace of play was slow, but apparently there was a big group out about 1 hour before us.
No snack or beverage shop available
Overall had great day golfing and know that course should be great to play all year.
Crowne Isle Courtenay
The course is in good shape for this time of year.
This course provides challenge to the golfer, there is a diversity of holes, no weak holes......all in all a good golfing experience
I enjoyed it immensely....
