A Cool Wind
The course was wet. The wind was cool. A nice fall day on the course. Renting a golf car costs each player $20 for 18 holes. Does that seem high? 30 balls in a warm up bucket for $5...
Enjoyed the round
Played 18 from the whites with friends on a nice fall day! The course was green and lush. The greens were almost back to normal from being punched and sanded a while ago and didnt affect putting. This is a fun golf course to play.
Great time
I always enjoy Morningstar Golf Club. Some neat dog legs. Greens weren't super fast but rolled nice. Fairways were in decent shape. Bunkers could use some better sand but overall I had a great time and found the course to be good value for the price.
A great course layout, particularly if you hit a long ball!
This was a course where you can score well if you play it regularity. The free course guide is very beneficial. Overall a great Course and good condition. It is a good course to walk but is on the long side!
Great layout, mediocre maintence.
I love the layout but if you're going to play take a cart because there is a significant distance between greens and tees. The greens were in very good shape but the course itself needs some additional maintenance. The traps are unplayable (full of rocks with very little sand.) I've played this course for years but this year's conditions were the worst I've experienced.
Great day.
Had a great day for my friends 70th. First time on this course. Conditions were great. Staff excellent..
A lot of dry spots
Had a 5 some on the course, unacceptable.
A long course to play and walk, next time a cart. We found it difficult to always know where to shoot to, as poorly marked for players who are not familiar with this course. Hard to figured out distances to hazards etc.
a little neglected.
Greens in excellent shape, 5 stars.
Afternon Golf at Morningstar
The course was in good shape overall. There are some great par 3s and some risk reward par 5s that make it a nice course to play. The par 4s are a good mix of challenging holes, easier holes, and target golf holes. The afternoon weather was perfect for the round. The fellow (45 to 55) at the pro shop was a bit of a misery at check in. He could probably be more friendly to keep people coming back.
Morningstar
Course was in good shape and it was a beautiful morning
Once Great Now Hurting
Thé course is an interesting Ferber design.
The big problem is water. In the summer there is not enough and it is largely treated effluent. In the winter there is too much and drainage is poor.
On its fourth set of owners since 2000 it is now in receivership. There are some real challenges involved in getting the course back in shape including replacing the irrigation effluent pumps and convincing strata homeowners that effluent use is ok. Deep deep pockets required.
The greens are great in 2016
I was compelled to offer a review of Morningstar G.C. in 2016 since the last person's comments were posted in 2014.
Yes, the greens were severely damaged then but have fully recovered and this season, have been superb! Pure, smooth green and rolling true and quick :)
Fairways have played firm and fast as summer unfolded, and in August 2016 bounce-and-roll was good for another 30+ yards easily.
Generally speaking, this is one tough golf course LOL. For me, breaking 100 is a good round. Scratch golfers won't look down their noses at this course. It demands long shots with accuracy.
Hole #12 is my favourite. If you play there, you'll see why!
Morningstar separates the real golfers from those who aspire to. You definitely should check it out. Twilight 18 with a cart (starts at 3pm) is fifty bucks all in. A great deal.
Greens SO BAD !!!!!
This is a very difficult review to write, because there was so much good, BUT the greens have been killed by poison water. So really no grass on them. The rest of the course was in above average condition considering we haven't had rain for two months. If you're going to play it, check on condition when making T time. Not much sand in bunkers.
The Poor Greens
I have played Morningstar a number of times and have always found the course to be in pretty good shape. It is such a shame that the greens have been damaged, supposedly by poisoned water according to some other reviews. We had a pretty good rate with GolfNow so I can't complain too much but I can't believe they are still charging full fare for regular green fees. Only other complaint are the bunkers need to be re-built there is no where near enough sand in many of them.
A-ok
Greens a bit sparse from lack of water but great challenging layout.
our summary
As we weren't told there was a mistake with watering and the water killed the fairway and greens. We still paid full price . If the course was in good shape it would of been in my opinion a challenging course. The other thing is when going to the tee there is no layout of the hole. It is not on the card or anywhere but in a book which you can purchase for 8 dollars.
Since then, the greens have fully recovered. Morningstar's greens have been beautiful this summer (2016)...
Luckily, the horror show left no lasting mark and, having golfed numerous rounds at Morningstar this season, I can attest to their superb condition. Cheers.
